Gman - I go to Canada every summer fishing for walleyes and northerns....here's my advice:
For equipment, use medium action rods with 8lb line for walleyes, and use medium/heavy rod with 10 or 12lb for the northern pike. As far as tackle, the northerns are not picky and will hit almost anything that moves...but try to use large daredevl spoons, large stick-baits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and bucktail spinners. For walleyes, try trolling live minnows or leeches on in-line spinners like "little joe" spinners or "lindy" spinner rigs. Also try 3-4 inch swim baits, 3 inch grubs, crankbaits, and 1/2 ounce to 3/4 ounce daredevl spoons. The tackle you take need not be much....the very first year I went to canada, I spent over 150 bucks on tackle, and ended up catching 90% of our fish on trolling rigs tipped with minnows, crawlers, and leeches.
Whatever you do, have fun! It is a blast fishing up north!!

Smallmouth will hit the same thing up there as here, pike are alot of fun on buzzbaits, we also catch alot on spinnerbaits, walleyes on trolling rigs and crankbaits. Jigs with minnows work good too. Image

When we go up we take 1/8 oz Roadrunners in chartruse and red, and then 1/4 oz Roadrunners in chartruse with long curley tails. Haven't been up there in 4 or 5 years, but we slaughtered the walleye all day with chartruse and red, and then slaughtered small-mouth and walleye late in the day and early in the morning with the 1/4 oz chartruse.
They didn't seem to have become used to the color or the Roadrunner underbelly spinner? so they went at them like young large mouth bass in a newly opened farm pond. (It worked for us two years in a row.)
Also, Smithwich Rogues (brown & orange on cloudy days, and silver and black on sunny days) worked well on them too. Haven't been in 4 or 5 years so can't vouch for how they work now, but when we went we went in June.

What part are you going to? What lake? What are you fishing for? Give us an idea and we can take it from there.
