First for Mrs. LS!!!

Post by Limbshot » November 14th, 2011, 8:54 pm

Well after years of hunting, my wife was able to make it all happen Sunday afternoon. She had been ill and missed Saturday morning and we couldn't hunt that evening. Then she had a rough night with coughing and achiness so she didn't sleep much and still wasn't feeling well Sunday morning and missed out again. Saturday midday, I went over to the neighbor's place and set up a blind in an area torn up with rubs and lots of sign. Brushed the blind in really well and left the area and made the decision to leave the place alone unless she was able to go out. I had left this place alone all archery season just for this time of year in hopes of getting her over there. I hunted both mornings and saw 5 bucks, all of which were little 18 month olds. Fun to watch, but nothing to even consider shooting. After the morning hunt, I headed back to the house to see how she was feeling, she said better. Ate some lunch, took a nap, and got up and showered and got ready. Slept a little longer than I wanted but we got moving. We got over to the neighbor's parked, and walked to the spot. Half way there we were met by a horse and the misses pet him a bit and we went on our way. Got to the blind got inside and set up. Finally got everything situated and I looked at my phone and it was 2:54. I turned and looked to the north where I expected a deer to be coming from and I heard the distinct sound of footsteps. I thought the dang horse was coming in to check us out and then realized the steps were moving up along the opposite side of the draw we were sitting next to. I turned to look and a deer was moving over ther finger behind us in a line that would bring him up on the flat we were on. Then I got a good look at him and saw the he was a pretty decent 8 pointer. I told her there was a deer and it looked like a good one and she didn't believe me. It took a bit but she finally saw him too and realized I was serious. She grabbed the 30/30 and got into position. I grunted at him once to try and bring him a little closer and he whipped his head around to look at us. Did not see the blind at all. He finally started moving across the flat moving parallel to us. I tried to stop him for her but he would not stop. He was walking slowly and she had the cross hairs on him staying with him. As he walked out from behind a tree she eased back on the trigger, and he fell where he was standing. She immediately asked if she got him, and I told her he went down right where he was. Her response was "Shut up, I got him? I got a deer?" I assured her he went down where he was, I watched him fall, and she started shaking and smiling a huge grin. I was super pumped!!! We hugged and high fived, and hugged some more. Waited a few minutes to make sure he didn't pop back up then went over for the recovery. He was done. 70 yard shot, 0 yard recovery. I am still so excited. Going into the season I had three goals. Get my daughter her first deer in her first season, get my son his third deer in as many seasons and try like heck to get my wife her first deer after years of trying and passing on does and a few near opportunities. Two of those three were completed last week, and then this completed my goals and I could not be more thrilled. Now maybe I can get a good one, and if I do, great, but either way, this has been the most amazing deer season of my life, and I will likely not be able to top it!!! Haven't seen her this excited in a loooong time. I think that smile says it all!!!

Thanks guys. I still can't believe how that hunt went down. Just loved seeing the excitement after show knocked him down. I still get pretty excited when I shoot one, but nothing like that! So glad I was in the blind with her for her first. thumb2:

Congratulations to your wife, that is too cool.

One question, though. How long and how many people did it take to get you up from that squatting position? I know your old-man knee/leg/hip/whatever kinked out on you.
All you thugs and ugly mugs dealing drugs and making noise,
You can kill each other all you want but if you touch my little boys,
You begging for this bullet will be the last thing that you say
before I let my dark side come out to play

He's not squatting in that picture. That's his actual height.

That buck looks identical to my wife's deer. Tell her congrats!
