PoisonSnake Tip of the Week (Week 4)
Never, and I mean never, lean your rifle up against the tree while sitting the buttstock on the seat of your ladder stand in the event your hands are cold. One would be better off with a gun sling (which I hate on a gun) and hanging it from a hook on the side of the tree. Trust me when I say you will see your life flash before you very quickly in the event that your gun falls 20 feet to the ground. Furthermore, replacement of the buttstock on a Thompson Center Encore is not cheap.

A guy was killed in Barton County about 7 years ago when that happened. His M.L. discharged when it hit the ground and the 50 caliber round went straight up his poop chute. He died in agony and wasn't found until late that night.

Who says the Texas Heart Shot isn't effective?
All you thugs and ugly mugs dealing drugs and making noise,
You can kill each other all you want but if you touch my little boys,
You begging for this bullet will be the last thing that you say
before I let my dark side come out to play
You can kill each other all you want but if you touch my little boys,
You begging for this bullet will be the last thing that you say
before I let my dark side come out to play

I have heard that the more dangerous spot in the field is inside of a duck blind or pit. Who knows really?

Knowing waterfowlers the way I do, it seems your ass is always in danger around them.

November 2010 One of the guys I have hunted with on the farm in Kirksville dropped his Rem m700 300wm and it went off hitting him in the foot, the hand, and grazed the side of his head. He lost 2 toes, and 3 fingers. He said he's done hunting.
The Doctor said I should drink more whiskey. Also, I'm calling myself 'The Doctor' now.

There was the nephew of a farmer on the farm next to our old hunting spot and he was climbing a tree with a loaded rifle slung on his shoulder. The sling cam loose and the gun discharged when it hit the ground. the bullet went under his clothes and travel along his back but never penetrated the skin. had some marks from the rubbing of the bullet but he was damn lucky. the rule in our camp is no loaded guns climbing in or out of stand and no loaded guns near the house.

My FIL was jacking a shell into his rifle and it went off. Scared the heck out of me. Luckily, he is very observant about keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction.

Back in the early 70's when most of you were in diapers I was on a hunt near Vienna, Mo. Around lunch time all the guys gathered at my stand to walk to the cars. We were waiting for a couple more to get there and one of the guys had the barrel of his rifle on the welt of his boot when the rifle went off. It blew the side off his boot and all we could see was red inside. Fortunately it was the red toe section of his hunting sock and he was not hit. The guy was in the Army at the time and we were surprised he did that. I am a real stickler for safety in hunting camp.

back in the 60's when most of you were. you where not even in the hanger yet. ha!! you do not fall with your four-ten in a snow bank, pluging the barrel and then shooting at a bunny. peel that barrel four inchs back. lesson learned.

LP, well i was there and fell into a drift that had drifted over. My right leg bent at the knee so my boot was touching my rear end. Difference in my story and yours is that I checked the barrel and cleared before shooting. Man we had some snow in those days.lonepine wrote:back in the 60's when most of you were. you where not even in the hanger yet. ha!! you do not fall with your four-ten in a snow bank, pluging the barrel and then shooting at a bunny. peel that barrel four inchs back. lesson learned.

Me too and we hardly ever got a snow day.
