PMS - I've been thinking too. I think you need to quit shooting the aforementioned sammich bucks then you might have a chance at killing a buck worth talking about.

PS, try pi$$ING down the barrel, if you can hit it, that heat should do the trick, now if you been eating alot of prime-rib that should lube it up good enough. your welcome..LP

Re: Muzzleloading Question
If you can't get rid of the brown on the patches, then you may want to use J-B Non-Embedding cleaning compound on the barrel. You can get it from www.midway.com either by itself or with a can of Kroil for less than $15. Kroil would get EVERYTHING out of the barrel, the you could start the seasoning process all over again if you wanted to. Lots of folks aren't messing with seasoning their barrels these days though. I'm not one of them however.
Most likely, you're gonna be fine. But hey, you've had your Encore longer than I've had mine, so take this for what it's worth.

PS would not have any trouble Pi$$ing down the barrel of his muzzelloader....He would have plenty of room....May even get lost in there....What I am trying to say is that he would not have to aim very closely...
That's funny you don't look Druish.

Re: Muzzleloading Question
Snake, I've had my smoke blower for about 2 yrs now,
First off not knowing anything about them I looked up a few guy's that was pretty profficent with them and asked their advice and also went to forums and asked questions, To a man they told me to not under any circumstances to put bore butter in my barrel. Only time I use the stuff is to coat the teflon tape on my breech plug to keep it from sticking.
I use Breakfree CLP in my barrel after cleaning and have let the gun sit for as long as 8 months and had a clean patch when I checked it. When I take it to the range I run an alcohol patch to clean the breakfree fom the barrel and then a patch to dry it ,then fire a primer into the patch to make sure the breechplug is clean. After every other shot I run a patch with windex through it to keep it clean and the rifle shooting the way it should.
Works for me. By the way I'm shooting two 50 grn. pellets of triple 7 and 250 grn shockwaves and my accurucy is excellent out to 150 yds. 2 to 3 patches of hot water is all it takes to clean the barrel after shooting.

Re: Muzzleloading Question
You should of got instructions on how to clean your Rifle.I know on mine said to use Solvent or Hot Soapy water, dry it out and oil it with a Good Gun Oil.Done this for over 30 years no problem.
I've heard too much negative on Bore Butter to take a chance.By the way T/C says if your shooting Sabots or PowerBelts absolutly not use BoreButter.

Triton: Now that right there was funnier than hell.
Mike: Sounds like good advice. Do you use bore butter?
Bowhunter: Also sounds like good advice. Where do you get the Breakfree at?
Oneshot: I have been following the directions in my TC book. I did read the other evening about bore butter uses and the powerbelts, but I didn't see anything negative about using it with sabots. I have yet to have a problem. I'll check it again when I get home.
Fish: STFU!
Yeah, I should never have left it in the garage. I have left it loaded for a week at a time, but it always sat in a controlled atmosphere in the gun cabinet. Never in the garage.
Thanks for the help fellows!

Re: Muzzleloading Question
Jeff - Here's a recent post of mine regarding what I've done with Bore Butter. It's in response to some chastising a few Bench-Resting Muzzle Loaders that know a whole lot more about this stuff than I do. Yet, after one of the most respected read this, he gave me the thumbs up... as in 'sounds good'. Not, 'stick a thumb up your donkey'...
I never did make comparrisons with how often I could shoot before completely cleaning the barrel, but I did watch as my B-I-L first could only shoot about 5-7 shots before he could no longer push a patch and ball OR a sabot down the barrel with his ram rod. Then, after about 40 shots w/ 50gr. of pyro and a lubed patch and ball... with some cleaning in between every third or fourth shot, he was able to get 12-14 shots out of the barrel without cleaning. His is a stainless barrel as well.
Hell. I'm sticking with what I've got right now. The gun shoots pretty darn good with 2 pyro-pellets and a 300gr Hornady sabot. I don't even clean the barrel before I begin each shooting session and I don't clean it until I'm done shooting for the day. The sabots just slide right on down. Granted, I don't get to shoot more than about 10-12 times per outing, but when I'm done, I just pump boiling soapy water up and down the barrel until it's darn hot. Then plain boiling water. Sometimes, I don't even mess with the soapy water, the barrel comes clean just as easily either way. Then about 6 dry patches or until there's no water showing on the barrel. Let it sit for about 20-30 minutes and then run two pre-BB-lubed patches down the barrel and teflon tape the breech plug. The Breach plug is never frozen in.
The system is just easy. Nothing special to mix up, no fumes... nothing. Easier than cleaning my 30-06 and .22 barrels, but nothing is as easy to clean as a shotgun barrel. Especially since I bought one of those bore snakes. One pull is all it takes. Literally 10 seconds start to finish.
Anyway, when I first started doing this M/L thing, I couldn't get the gun to group worth crap. I discovered it had everything to do with my loading process and nothing to do with the barrel being bore-butter-seasoned or not.
Hell, I'd bet I couldn't hit a car with it off hand at 400yds today, but I guarantee it has nothing to do with the barrel being seasoned or just coated with CLP.
I do know, however, that I can make a straw man go up in flames just as easily as the next guy. I wonder how much snickering I would have taken if I blamed my 60yd miss (as in, not recovered) this year on Bore Butter instead of passing on the shot because my body was torxed past 90 degrees.

You all put way to much into this. Clean out the crap and oil it. Then shoot it when you want and clean it again.
All this talk is overboard.

Re: Muzzleloading Question
I can`t believe I actually read all of these posts thinking that this thread would get better.

One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

Re: Muzzleloading Question
I agree. It really is easy. None of the high dollar CLP, mixing cleaning crap, swabbing between every shot.... just hot water, dry it, and run a pre-lubed patch. Simple as hell.
