I once had a comparison of people killed by doctor's versus people killed by guns, posted on my personal website. My doctor just so happened to check out my homepage, and our doctor/patient "relationship" soured immediately.

It's just a sad commentary that the law abiding are treated as the law breaking. I wish I could find the article I had that described how, as a government got bigger, it attempted to find more laws to enact to provide more law breakers so the government could coalesce more power within its hands. It falls hand in glove with what we are experienceing now.

Ok, we need a dissenter here. I'll volunteer...

This is just another cheap play on the emotions and heartstrings of folks who are either uneducated or not smart enough to see the differences between those instances and the current situation in the USA today. First and foremost, none of those countries were ever a true democracy, with the type of freedom we have today. As a result, the changes in gun control laws were minor modifications at most. It is disingenuous to present the information as it is presented. These people did not previously have unfettered access to any weapon they wanted to possess. To assume they did and then all of the guns were rounded up and taken from the common man is just inaccurate.

These comparisons may have some, very small, lesson in them but they certainly are not good analogies to our current situation. We have a 200+ year old democracy with over 275 million Americans enjoying freedom for the longest sustained period of time in recorded history. In addition, we have God knows how many guns already in the general population. Furthermore, we have a constititional right to keep and bear arms. None of these factors were in play in the examples listed above. As a result, I think the examples are poor and may give the anti-gun crowd great ammo (pun intended) against the gun rights people. They can simply point out the obvious flaws in the analogies, then move right in to the reasons why we need more control in our country today!

Before you all start to cut and paste this post and try to refute my points with windy ramblings about the constitution and our "rights", let's get a few things perfectly clear. First, I am very pro gun. I don't support many gun control laws or issues and I firmly believe we should be allowed to keep and bear arms. However, I think it is just plain foolish to think we don't need any restrictions on who can own and carry and use what weapons. Even the most simple minded can understand that we can't have the average joe toting around RPG's or flame thowers. What about armor piercing bullets? Should they be on the market? With these things in mind, there have to be some rules and/or laws restricting weapons. The question simply becomes where to draw the line... That is the current agument and it will rage on until all of our weapons are taken away or all of the anti's are shot by the gun rights people...

I really compare this type of post to the anti's using cheap ploys to pull on the heartstrings of the undecided. They make a big deal out of every incident that involves an accidental shooting or crimes committed with a gun but seem to forget about the instances where guns saved lives or kept the victim from actually becoming a victim. Are we the same as them? Are we going to lie and misrepresent facts? If so, fine. Keep posting stuff like this and we can all collectively chant RAH,RAH together. I would just like to think our position is stronger that that and we can win the hearts and minds of the undecided with sound arguments and good facts.

There, that oughtta get 'em goin'...
