crappie fishing 2-19 thru2-21

Post by Bruce Carpenter » February 22nd, 2005, 10:45 am

Fished for crappie all three days, starting with LOZ and caught 19 keepers on Saturday, 9-13 inchers, on jig and minnows about 6 foot deep. On sunday started at LOZ but got off the lake after 25MPH winds hit after catching only 8, 10-12 inch crappie, went to a private lake and caught 13 more 9-12 inch crappie. Monday caught 25 crappie before the winds died down to nothing, and when the winds stopped so did the crappie activity. But did catch 9 black bass, each bigger than 2 pounds Monday morning on crappie jigs. Largest was 4 pounds. All fish catch with a bobber, using jigs and niblets or jigs and minnows. Not a great report for a couple of fishermen each day, but we didn't go home hungry any day. LOZ is starting to clear up and should continue to improve in water clarity as this week progresses. Temperature still at 41 or 42 degrees. Fish holding close to structure. And a challenge to remove the fish from the structure without breaking the line or losing the fish. Looking forward to next weekend. Bruce
