MTL 3/20/05

Post by Daffy » March 21st, 2005, 9:39 am

Not the best report because of technical difficulties. But getting on the water after noon (Thank goodness!) the lake warmed up just a bit. Water level is still low and clarity is about 10+ inches. No fish so I have no idea what they were hitting on.

Tried mostly to catch some crappies then switched to bass the last few minutes of daylight. Nothing like being on the lake practically by yourself and the setting sun behind you as you pull the boat up the ramp. Image

I went to Twain to de-winterize my boat mainly, try out a new rod-holder design and to see if I could catch a few crappie.

I didn't find any water that clear (10"?)- but I didn't go all the way down to the dam either. The clearest water I saw was around 4 inches. I did catch about 6-8 with the largest being 11 inches Image All the rest were 9" or less and not worth keeping. I did catch the 11 incher after my first ever use of "magic dust"- I was amazed! Thanks Bruce!

I caught mine around 6-8 feet deep against deep vertical trees. One or two were shallow and caught swimming and dabbling a tube jig with a crappie nibble. The water started out at around 42 degrees and ended up around 48. I did run through some 50 degree water but it was way too muddy to fish. I hope Twain clears up soon.

TwoTigers you maybe right about the clarity. Always used my johnson as measurement and it was strunken that day.

More rain just ain't gonna help MTL, just make ya fish harder. Late before the 20th trip the water temp was 43 of course this all depends on which part of the lake you're on.

Guessin it's time to try the 'Magic Dust' trick as well. Also thinkin about two to three more weeks Twain will get better.

Good Luck everyone.
