New Adventure

Post by powerdivehome » May 19th, 2005, 12:01 am

At long last, I get a taste of Erie!

A business associate is flying me up to Cleveland, then putting me on a full-day charter out of Port Clinton on 6/4. Couple nights on the town, back home Sunday nite.

It's an annual deal for them. Ain't no trolling bite--supposedly it always hits the mayfly hatch and they throw weight-forward spinners (shades of 1985!). Last year they limited out on fish up to 11.5 lbs.

This oughta be prime... just had to tell someone. Image

Congratulations, PD - I hope you have a great trip!

Walleyes are interested in a mayfly hatch? I guess I just learned something new, I always associated mayflies with trout in high mountain streams.

Who'd a thunk it?

Say "Hi" to Rick and Juls while you're in Port Clinton.
Sounds like a great trip...have fun...eat a light breakfast so you don't decorate the charter boat floor if you get seasick...and don't forget your camera to take plenty of pics so we can be educated when you get back. If you need some Erie Dearies, I have half a dozen or so.

Rick & Juls are leaving for Devils Lake that day, so I'll miss 'em. I've been on Lake Michigan, and yes--no matter how much time you spend on inland waters, you can certainly get queasy on the big ponds. But setting up a chum line may not be such a bad thing... Image

As I recall, that young Candle fella was telling me about his house some forty feet from the shoreline of Devil's Lake. He seemed to be fond of fishing there.

The program there would be a winter ice fishing trip for eyes and the football size perch they have there. Thats been on my agenda for sometime.

The contract rules of AARP absolutely forbids that I fish on a body of water where you can walk out to the fishing spot. You guys can have the ice fishing, thank you! When you have to use a post hole digger to go fishing, that is just a little beyond what CW would consider fun. Maybe with one of those tow-behind shelters with plenty of sipping brandy....otherwise, not a chance. A trip like that would be right up there with a going to the final home game of the year at Lambeau Field without a propane heater.

Anytime anyone wants to head this way, let me know. I happen to know this guy that ives there and guides between tournaments.

The ice fishing has been tough the last few years for the perch, but the walleye fishing is incredible. Summer and winter.

I will keep you guys posted on the escapades of the rest of the season.
Keep the Line Tight,

I go to the Devil's Lake area each fall to duck hunt. I have yet to hook up with the Perch Patrol to ice fish.

Best mallard/pintail hunting in the U.S. (in my opinion) is in that area.
AGH...lost it....She pulled down my pants and all she did was giggle.

I gave my ice gear away when I moved down here to the Deep South. Don't miss it a bit, to tell the truth... Devil's Lake sure seems like an awesome place, though. There aren't too many natural lakes where a guy could catch a tricycle in addition to a limit of nice walleyes and monster northerns!

PD,
There's no such thing as a "no-trolling-bite" on Lake Erie! But, you will really enjoy casting for them...it's a more "one-on-one" approach with the toothy critters, and it will keep you busy.

Sorry we are going to miss you when you get to town. It would have been nice to get together with you.

Juls
