By the way, top two places automatically qualify for the '06 NTC. Very interesting...

I am going to fish it for two days prior, as I have never been on this fishery before.

Is anyone else going to be down there early? I have booked a room at the Lake Norfolk Resort from Thursday night on. It is more fun to drink beer with people than solo....well, I take that back...I would rather drink solo than with my brother-in-law.

I am bringing my own personal stash of Canadian beer (Kokanee). Two cases should cover me.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha! CW is back in possession of his beloved Express. The mechanic found what I thought she would find...all six carbs were full of black gunky dirt, courtesy of the Polk County Commission which sends the damned road grader out to make sure the dust stays on top of the sharp rocks they put on our roads. Too bad I can't send them the $300 bill, but at least the boat is up and running again. They think (as I did) that every time I hit a wake or big wave, the gas sloshing around would pick up the silt and get some of it in the float valve and main jet. They were amazed it ran at all. Anyway, it runs now, but I had to get back to the house on two of the nations' worst county roads. Even at 10 mph it looked like a wagon train out on the dusty prairie, so better start saving up for the next cleanout. Now that I am no longer boatless, it's time to dredge up some walleyes......starting tomorrow.
I hope to be on Sons Creek by 6:15.

I was up in extreme northern Manitoba a few years ago, and after the second day of a 10 day trip, I was having a heck of a time getting the motor to run on my duck boat. I brought the motor into a dealer up there and they found the remains of a mouse that somehow got into the motor. The little S.O.B. cost me a day of hunting and about $200 CDN (which is about $17.50 U.S.D.).

That was the first Canadian duck opener that I have been to that I killed a limit of ducks, got a limit of walleyes and lake trout, and a mouse.

CW, You have to give credit where credit is due for women, like mothering kids and putting up with husband's that spend to much time and money on their TOY's, but fixing your BOAT motor could have been your little secret, "the mechanic fixed my motor" would have been fine. Can't give them to much credit. Image Image

All I will say is this: two macho men mechanics at the unnamed marine repair shop on South Kansas Expressway kept the boat for eight weeks last fall, I wrote a check for almost eight hundred bucks, and they "could not duplicate the problem" I asked them to fix. I dropped the boat off at a new place in Bolivar called "Shorty's Marine Repair" on Friday morning, picked it up this afternoon, and they had done a complete cleanout of the carbs, wired in the electric fuel pump as I had requested..almost as I requested, but it works fine, so no big deal, tuned the engine, reset the idle so it shifts properly, and took it up the Lake Pomme de Terre along with a PWC so the young lady mechanic who did the motor work could personally do an on the water test, running the motor pretty hard and hitting the wake put up by the PWC, at least trying hard to duplicate the conditions that caused the motor to die. I may get over on Stockton tomorrow and get stranded "up the creek with only a trolling motor"....but somehow I think this little gal is every bit as good a marine mechanic as the guys with company shirts down in Springfield. Heck, if I was thirty years younger and not married, I might try to get her to live with me just to keep the outboard in good running tune. She is not hard on the eyes. I will report back on how this all turns out. Shorty, the owner, seems to be a real nice fella and wants his customers to be happy and come back. So I will let you guys know if the shop work is as good as I think it is. A guy who has a good boat, a good bar, and a good marine mechanic doesn't need a whole lot more....especially at my stage of life. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. For the record: I have had this boat for nearly ten years. In all that time, and after repeated invitations to go out on the water with me, Hausfrau has never, ever set foot in the Express. We have a good working agreement...I don't do the mall, and she doesn't want to go out in the boat. If I get what she calls a "real boat" with high sides (hmmmmmmm...sounds like a Lund walleye boat to me)then she will go for a ride on the lake, but no fishing. That works for me, too. Image

Can't beat that agreement! Yeah, wish I could afford one of those "real boats" also. I have never been on any of the great lakes, so I don't know what real puckering feels like, but I've been on BS when the waves was coming into the boat with us, those wimpy bass boats just don't cut it for dragging crawlers out in the open water! And after the PWT, it will be NO fun climbing back into the sprint! But I guess it's better than having to BUM a ride all the time.

I'll be at the Norfolk Inn starting Thurs. but I seldom drink beer, unless I'm alone or with somebody. I am reasonably confident I'll be in the only red skeeter walleye boat on the lake.

I will be the red/white Ranger 619. Just listen for the MN accent and look for the empty beer bottles outside my room.

Let's see....beer is made from barley or wheat, water, and some hops.....all healthy, natural ingredients that can take the place of a cholesterol loaded breakfast of bacon, eggs, butter drenched toast, and coffee with lots of cream.
Yessir...beer, the perfect health food. If you're trying to remove a couple of vanity pounds (hey, I don't make this up...that's what some chick on tv says to trick you into buying a bottle of diet pills for $153), you can always have a protein shake for lunch and wash it down with a couple of Lite brews. You guys have fun, catch lots of walleyes, and drink lots of health food.
