Fishfinders

Post by fishin » April 1st, 2004, 12:36 pm

What would you guys suggest for a mid line unit? I am open to most brands minus Hummingbird. It has to have temp and hopefully cost less than say $500.

Thaks for the help,

I just bought a Lowrance 126DF. $350 Some kind of nice. If I had it to do over I would probably not buy the Dual Frequency and save myself $50. From what I can tell so far I don't fish water deep enough to use it or just haven't figured out how to use it.

Damn hummingbird on my boat never makes any since. I suppose to works good enough to tell me how deep I am, but at places like bagnel it just goes haywire.

There was a Humminbird on my boat when I bought it. Also and old Eagle. The Humminbird was junk.
Even the depth reading's on the Bird were bad.

I have been looking the 126x I believe but my neighbor at Mark Twain has a Lowrance x12 I think he wants like $900 for because he is upgrading to the color version.

I don't think that I will ever own another Hummingbird.

I bought the Eagle FishElite 480 w/GPS. Way Cool! I love the display, but there are some features that the Lowrance units have thta this one doesn't. Like the ability to customize the depth range. The Eagle only will let you use the factory depth settings in either auto or manual mode. I just need some more time to play with it. Why can't they put a faster processor in, and set these things up to track the bottom. Not 20ft under the bottom. It is a very good unit for the money.

Everyone I talk to with the Eagles really like them. I really don't think I can part with $900 for a fishfinder. I have gotten accustomed to living in the house. Thank for the info.

I have gotten accustomed to living in the house.

Know the feeling, I just about drool going down the aisles at BP but feel the heat from behind and wisely don't linger too long in one area.

Even if I won $10,000 shopping spree at BP- I still dont think I could spend more than $400 on a fish finder...

I try not to take the wife to BPS. There is one here that I can get by at lunch or after work if need be.

This fish finder is beyond belief it shows stuff that I never knew existed. We found an old cemetery with the GPS a couple weeks ago.

I was actually looking at the sonar only unit, when 'ol "meaner than hell" comes up behind me and says, "Just get the one with the GPS in it, you know that's what you want".
I love that ornery redhead!
