Retirement. What is he 137 years old now? What a career!!!

He's 42 and made the team at Denver, but he would have been the 4th or so receiver. If there is a receiver record he doesn't have, they should go ahead and give it to him anyway. 20yrs as a viable wide out in the NFL is amazing.

Jerry Rice has more than earned his retirement from the NFL and it is amazing he has sustained his storied career for so long.



With that said, I think he was a little selfish under the circumstances of his retirement. He waited to decide about retirement after the mandatory roster cutdown to 53 players and took a roster spot from some deserving player who wanted to play this year. He had to know that the Broncos would not make him a starter with the likes of R. Smith and A. Lelie, coupled with Rice's lack of speed last year when he was with Oakland. I'm sure Shanahan kept him on the roster to mentor younger receivers and to come in for crucial goaline plays or 3rd downs.



I'm in no way belittling Rice's career. But to me, Rice's departure that way is just a little self-centered and tarnishs a little an otherwise sterling career.
