Calling works much better if the cover is so thick that deer can't see under your stand or behind you. My biggest bow buck came off a hot doe trail, doe was 50yds ahead of him, to my can call. He smelled the hot doe, heard the call, and came right to me. The cover is so thick in there, he couldn't see 15-20yds out, and thought the doe had changed dirrections, since he couldn't see her or see that she wasn't there either, he fell for it.
I would think Doe in heat and can calling would be great for the second rut. The only bucks I've seen chasing in the late season have been true whoppers.
