KC Area Gunsmith- Any Recommendations?

Post by Tigerhaze » January 28th, 2005, 8:19 pm

Anyone have any recommendations on a good gunsmith in the KC area, preferrably one that specializes in Remingtons?

Just about any gun shop has gunsmith services, but I couldn't garuntee excellent results. Try Cabella's, they're about the only place around that would be big enough that they would have to have a decent gunsmith on staff.

If you hear of another decent one, let me know, I would appreciate it.

Actually on the Cafe, several people recommended Mark Pursell. He has a shop near Smithville-his phone is 816-781-9580. E-mail is mpursell@planetkc.com.

I may give him a try.

Good luck. I have a few bidness cards I have picked up at gunshows, but I wouldn't know who was worth while and who not to recommend.

What are you going to get done? I have a ruger with a stiff trigger, but otherwise is accurate and very dependable.

OK. Its a good thing I didn't show that to a gunsmith, he might have thought I was a pervert or something. Image

I have a Remington 7600 (Pump action .30-06). I have had it for many years and it has been a great gun for me (used it in Montana for mulies and antelope, etc.).

Anyhow this hunting season something happened with the ejector. I had a group of does, and the slide wouldn't cycle the spent brass after I shot. I ended up missing my chance on the rest of the does. Image

Once I forced the slide open (by gently tapping the forearm grip), I could cycle unfired cartridges in and out just fine. Once I shot a shell again, the slide became jammed again. I haven't shot it since.

I took a cursory look in the action and can't see any broken parts or springs. I don't have time to take it apart myself and would just assume have someone knowledgable look at it.

I know a decent gunsmith now and he has done some work for me. PM me if you still need the info.
