Scope question
Fellows: I just purchased a new VXII by Leupold for my ML. Wanted something good finally and bit the big one. Now, I am not terribly knowledgable when it comes to scopes and all. I have read the directions for this thing, but it really doesn't say much regarding moving the point of impact of the bullet. Mind you, I have not looked at the scope either, so I don't know what, if any, arrows are on the thing for moving the point of impact. But, my question is this: If I am hitting high on the target, how would I move the point of impact of the bullet down? Left and right pretty much the same question. I have been successful in the past getting a scope dead on, but it is by trial and error and I don't feel like screwing the pooch early on as reloading a ML can be a pain in the donkey. If any of you fellows have any info or shoot a scope such as this, I would appreciate it. The Snake

Re: Scope question
YOU ARE RIFLE HUNTING???
I'm so disappointed...I thought you were done with that.
What has always worked for us...let me see if I remember this correctly...shoot a couple of rounds so you know where it's hitting and it's not shooter's flinch. Then put the gun in a vise (I have a portable shooting vise if you want to borrow it) so the crosshairs are on the bullseye. Then adjust the scope so the crosshairs go out to your bulletholes. So if you're shooting low right, you'll be adjusting your scope down and to the right which will raise your impact and move it to the left. (Somebody correct me if I have this procedure backwards.) By using the bullseye and bullet marks as reference points you eliminate a lot of the guess work of "one click = 1/4 inch", etc..
You got my number if you want to borrow the vise, hunt or drink...folks are gone to FL and boy is gone till Sunday. I'm hunting...and drinking... for 4 days

What I am asking is how I move it low and to the right. PM me with your # once again. I'll call you on Friday.
On another note, I bit the big one. I did carry a gun sometiems and a bow sometimes during the season.

You should have caps on the top and one side. Screw those off and you'll have an adjusting screw underneath.

Re: Scope question
Clicking the UP direction, does that move the bullet UP? That is what I am wondering?

Re: Scope question
Listen...and I'm typing this real slowly...if you follow the directions I gave and put the damnn thing in a vise you'll know as soon as you click it. I don't know off-hand if clicking it up moves the point of impact up or the crosshairs up...but I'm going to guess that "up" will raise your crosshairs, and lower your POI.
I just do the bullseye-to-impact system and don't mess with all that technical stuff!

MoCraig - If I take him to the range, one of us ain't coming back...and given this post, I wouldn't bet on the PhD being the one to make it back!
Besides, his scope is off....my rifle is dead on!

Re: Scope question
You sure 'bout that flake? You're saying if you want the bullet to go up you should click the scope in the up direction? I was thinking up would raise the crosshairs, thus lowering the POI. If you would just use the process I posted you don't gotta mess with this chit and figure number of clicks. Much more simple.

Re: Scope question
Snow is right, If you want the bullet to move to the right, you adjust the dial to the right.
If you dial the scope adjustment up, the bullet impact should be higher.
I have done it ODF's way, but it's easier if you have two people, imo.
I don't remeber what the adjustments are on that scope, 1/4" or 1/2" adjustments, but I find it easier to figure up how many clicks over and how many up, when using a quality scope. The adjustments are usually dead on.

Re: Scope question
I like for one person to look through the scope and make sure the rifle isn't moving, while the scope is being dialed to the bullet impact. But since I only count clicks over I do it the other way. Doing it your way is what I do when bore sighting and making sure a scope/gun in on paper.
That and for safety reasons, ODF.

FOLLOW THE BULLET. IF IT'S HITTING HIGH, CLICK UP. IF LOW, GO DOWN. Just like your bow.
Because you're wrong. If it's hitting high, you want the bullet to hit lower, so you turn the scope adjustment down, to bring the bullet down.
