WM - Not sure what you mean by sending you for a ride. I've bushhogged PS's HFA up and down hillsides and never had any troubles. Get used to running it on open areas and you won't have any troubles with it. Only thing I have trouble adjusting to with the PTO is that...if I remember correctly...our JD is live power all the time when engaged and our old Ford only has power when you're foot is off the clutch.

I think WM has heard the stories of people using a bushhog on an "N" series tractor without an overrunning clutch coupler on the PTO. The PTO is not live (either "on" or "off" regardless whether the transmission is in neutral or not) and the problem is that the bushhog can get turning faster than the PTO and "push" the tractor forward even if you throttle down the engine or disengage the clutch while in gear. There have been people killed because of this.



If you use the overrunning clutch coupler, then the PTO is in effect "disengaged" from the bushhog if that happens because the coupler will only turn internally as fast as the PTO (540 RPM).They are only about $60 new, and well worth the cost. I've never had a problem with my bushhog after putting one on.

Yep I need to get a slip clutch on the pto. I don't have one, but the ones I've seen were $110 or so.

They are about $60 at Family Center in Harrisonville (should be in stock), and I thought they are about the same price at Tractor Supply COmpany but I could be mistaken about that. There's a TSC there on the east side of Lee's Summit near Todd George Road. You'll need to make sure you get the 1 1/8" female to 1 3/8" male overrunning clutch unless your 9N PTO shaft has been converted. Most mid-size and larger bushhogs have the 1 3/8" splined female coupler.



I think they are a little less from Valu-Bilt (online mail order catalog) who I buy a lot of parts from since they often have specials for free shipping to regular customers and have a better selection of parts. I think Family Center orders their catalog parts from Valu-Bilt because the catalogs look the same.

My New Holland has a double clutch for the pto and transmission. I also has a disengage lever for the power to the pto. The tractor will not start if the pto is engaged. A lot of safety features but it is only 7 years old. The old ones are good machines but you do need to know what you are doing. WM depending on what you are hogging you may want to have some spare shear pins or soft bolts for the pto connection to the gear box.

Yeah, it's adjustable to the users wieght, and comfortable. It was pretty much the major selling point of the whole contraption.

Nice looking 9N- seems like you got a good deal if you didn't pay out the nose for it. Yours is definitely a parade tractor compared to my 8N! Mine has the original spring pan seat unlike your deluxe seat. I'm suprised that fancy dancy seat doesn't have a built in can holder for your beer- something you may want to think about.



Mine has shear bolts right at the bushhog gear box; I've broken a few over the years trying to bushhog in the timber. That tall grass hides a lot of logs and stumps!



Is yours still a 6V positive ground or did it get the conversion?

Still a 6v. I just happen to run into a old retired guy that rebuilds old ford stuff. He had this tractor and 3 more N series Fords that were lined up to be worked on. He also had a mint model A Ford in the driveway. The price was low, but he'd only take cash, which is heck to get any decent ammount from the bank anymore. I had to talk them into giving me my own money.



I also have a lot of misc. bullchit hiding in the grass and horse weeds. I'm pretty sure I'll have most of the grass knocked down after I drag all of the chit out of the way, and then I'll probably still hit something seriously big and heavy with the brush hog.
