Back from Table Rock...

Post by hobiecat » May 17th, 2004, 12:36 pm

Went down Thurs am, got there bout noon. It started rainin bout 1:15 pm. Continued to rain until late Fri night and got real cool. The bass fishing was patchy at best! You could take your limit of crappie fairly easily (4 year old nephew did).

Because of the weather bass were hard to find. I caught a total of 21 bass from Thurs noon til Sun noon, 8 of which were keepers (over 15 inches). Mainly fished the Kings river arm around Viola. That area seemed to be the least stained and most productive. Best I could come up with was fishing 4" watemelon red chompers, around pea gravel points, in 4'-8' of water. Black and blue jigs and worms seemed to work well at nights (as always), in the same areas.

Crappie were hittin jigs or minnows around submerged bushes in 4'- 10' of water, in the backs of coves. They were NOT hard to find!

We could have fished harder, but the weather took alot out of us since we were camping out in it. Bad timing!! I think once it stabilizes a little, the fishing will be really good. I was impressed with the ratio of keeper bass to dinks.

Wolfie it didn't rise much. there is still some small trash in the channel. On the bright side, in my opinion, it has a little color and that can be a good thing. Caught a LM last night that had some skid marks on his tail.
