Any electronic caller reviews?

Post by Chairman » May 13th, 2004, 2:36 pm

I'm taking up 'yote hunting this year, and I need some suggestions for a good electronic caller ~ preferrably CD.

Anybody?

Rick...I used one two weeks ago that was the best thing since sliced bread, but it also was VERY expensive. My brother brought it up from Georgia and we called in a few in late afternoon to see how it would work. It's one of the remotely controlled 12 sound chip based ones, and that's not what you are looking for. If you are willing to do a little work (very little, very easy), I will be glad to provide you with plans to make one yourself. Takes about half an hour, and you can use CD based sounds, tape player based sounds, or even MP3 if you desire. Total cost, less your sound source (the player) is less than $40, and if you already have a personal CD player, that's the total. Will also be glad to provide you with some recorded CD's that I burn from my library. Glad to see that you are getting out in the springtime to chase yotes. Every one you take out now is several turkeys and maybe a fawn or two this fall that could eventually become a trophy buck. Anything I can do to get you up and running, feel free to ask. Also, next time you are chatting with Henry, tell him I have the bobcat CD he wanted. I don't have a mailing address. It has been burned and ready to go since my departure from his hangout. If you decide that you really prefer to buy one I would seriously look at the remote control capabilities. One with a long range remote makes things a lot easier and your hunting time is a lot more productive. I'm going to try one of the pop up blinds for calling this year and see if the song dogs see it, react to it, or just don't pay it any attention. Will let you know about that, too. If the fully enclosed blind works like I hope it will, it could be real bad news for the local coyote population. Either way, good luck to ya.

Well ~ I've decided to build my own. I'll be using an MP3 player, connected to a wireless transmitter & receiver. A digital & wireless-remote caller ~ Oh Yeah!

I'll post some pictures & a review, after finishing my project, if anyone's interested...

Good deal. Not only will you save a considerable sum of money, but you can design the caller around your particular needs. The one I made is not remote controlled and I miss that capability. Now start looking for a way to construct a remote controlled "Rigor Rabbit" decoy. That's the icing on the cake. Good luck with your project.

You can build one out of a 12volt sealed cell battery, a cd player, and a set of powered computer speakers in about 10 minutes. All you need is a cheap PA speaker from a CB or something.

About 60 bucks if you shop around.

Yes, and they're also illegal for turkeys and waterfowl, except for snow geese during the conservation order. It's also illegal to use them at night for predators.

OK thanks.. I thought that was true but I wasn't to sure about it. I like to hunt to much to take to much on just a chance.
