Pre-Deer season

Post by Warmouth » August 26th, 2008, 8:46 am

Anyone seeing any promissing sign or deer out there? I jumped a young one last night that didn't know where to run, and then when I came back trough, the darn thing was standing right there again. It was dumb enough I may actually have Hobbie come out and try to kill his first one!!!
The Doctor said I should drink more whiskey. Also, I'm calling myself 'The Doctor' now.

Picked up my daughter from softball practice last week, and right across the road, less than 400 yards away, were several does, fawns, and bucks. Two of the bucks were pretty big, but one was a gagger. A perfect tall-tined, high-racked 10 pt with almost zero inches of deductions. They were there two evenings in a row, and then again Friday morning. The good news is that it turns out huntingATM plays on the golf team with the son of the neighboring landowner. He doesn`t have much to hunt on his side of the fence, but a wooded draw with an oak flat at the top of the hill may just be the ticket.

I need to go check my trail cams at the F-I-L`s farm. I put one out, on a stake, in the bean field there. Hopefully it`s still standing.
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

Saw my neighbor, from across the street, feed a doe and a couple of fawns last night in his back yard....Sucker stealthily got to within about 10 yards of em, course he was carring a coffee can full of corn to them too...I think I will like some grain fed deer this winter...
That's funny you don't look Druish.

I've pretty much stayed out of my areas, so I can't say I've seen any there. I have seen quite a few nice bucks on some farms in Callaway County, but since I can't hunt there, really doesn't do me any good. I am hoping to get out this weekend and see which white oaks are producing and then hang a stand if necessary. I am hoping to locate the deer that shed the antler I found earlier this year, but we will see how that goes.
