i fish trottlines with 330lb nylon twine, and tye drop loops in the main line. with 78lb snagging line (thick braid)doubled over tied to mainline(14-18"), then swivel, then snagging line doubled(14-18"), then 7/0-9/0 true-turn stainless hook.
for limblines i just use the 330lb twine down to swivel, to doubled 78lb then hook.
the problem is i had a leader break this past weekend! double over 78lb!!! so am i using too light equipment, or had the leader just been worn(my guess) and used for too long??? thats what i'm wondering here, so what is your equipmewnt setup? and has it let you down?

The Doctor said I should drink more whiskey. Also, I'm calling myself 'The Doctor' now.

sounds like yer fishin fer JAWS. my guess would be that it was worn. "I've never seen a shark take down 3 barrels before. No shark can take down three!"
a bad day on the water is still better than not being there at all.

I like #180 braided nylon or cotton line. Run it from the limb to the swivel and swivel to the hook. Only time ive lost any(besides theifs) was when they broke the limb off or pulled the bush in. Either way it was a BIG cat!
Trotlines i used #1000 parachute cord with #180 drop lines. That or #680 tarred line. Either one will usualy pull any tree's up so you can recover your line after high water.
