Fishin was 3rd in line behind me buying those old red Ambassadeurs. I got my first one '67 and it's still casting well. I found the original leather case, spare parts kit and the little oiler that came with it a few weeks back. The stitching had dry rotted, but otherwise everything was still in good shape. I gave it to my fishing partner who collects such things. There was no such thing as a "palming side plate" back when those things were made, eh Fishin?
I have no doubt the high dollar Japanese reels are super nice, but I don't throw tiny little jigs and plugs with a bait caster...that's what the ultralight rigs are for.

I have a couple of Diawa TD's and they're not too shabby either. I do a lot of light line fishing though and its hard to beat the Shimano 100B's for that.
I know Loomis has a great following, but at 300 bucks + or -, I'm afraid I might expect too much from them. I won't buy anymore BPS rods because they don't have a hook holder. I know it can't cost more than a dime to add one in China.

I just bought the Pflueger President series baitcaster reel. With 9 stainless steel ball bearing it should be smooth as silk.

It's matched with a 6'6" AllStar Med. Heavy rod and if it looks as good as it fishes then I'll be happy. And yes it has a hook holder Hellbender on the Allstar rods. Image
