ODF - Think of the amount of money you've spent on hunting items over the years, then average it out over the number of deer you've killed. Then you'll come to the conclusion, $2,250 for a freaking deer!!!!

Flake, I hear you but that comes with the territory. Pay this on top of those expenses is nuts imho. Has anyone done any door knocking, traded some work, etc ? Good bucks can be had without being just plain lazy and paying for access.

What happened ?... do tell.
His dad was the first insurance agent in Putnam Co, and knew farmers for a few counties in every direction. Jim and his dad bird hunted all over up there and he has a lot of contacts through that (his sister still runs the State Farm up there). So he gets us permission to the first guy he calls and it's a good deal, they don't deer hunt, it's free, etc etc. Then he gets into an argument with the guy over the phone 2 nights ago over something stupid like NASCAR or which beer is better, something dumb, and Jim hangs up on the guy after calling him several choice names.
I just hope they're good enough friends to call it a drunken arguement among idiots and leave it at that.
Really I'm sure it's no big deal, they were high school buddies and bird hunted together a lot. It just makes me nervous since it's getting so close to that time of year. That and Jim is the type that goes hunting for the camaraderie and joking around more than the actual hunting, and I'm in it for the kill. Not depending on him would be great, but he has the contacts to a lot of farmers with primo land.

'xactly, 2B. I guaran-darn-tee you I ain't spent $2250 for A DEER. I have spent more than that on DEER HUNTING, but it was for equipment, guns and chit like that...not for some dude to point and go "there's a deer".

I have had many a arguements with close friends. Never has it stuck. Guess that is what's cool about true friends. Surely that will blow over.

Yeah, but I'd feel better about if they were arguing in January.

dave - You might have a chance then. The Whiteheads up in that area supposedly are related to Jesse James and darn if they ain't still got that attitude. It ain't good to go against them, but it ain't always good to have them on your side neither!
We was running roads up there one night after a long day of pheasant hunting and stumbled into this little road side bar. Just like a bad western the place went dead silent when we walked through. After we'd kicked some local donkey on the pool table and generally had a good time the locals decided it was time for the FT's (that's us) to be heading out. After the bartender found out the one dude was a Whitehead we had a free round on the house and everything smoothed out....'cept for the brothers over in the corner whose grandfather had apparently been screwed over by a Whitehead back in 1800-something or some crazy chit like that. We left the same way we came in...with our backs to the door!
