I have hunted a place off of 109 that backs up against Rockwoods. They told me of a nontypical monster 2 years ago. Makes me wish I had hunted it more. Wouldn't really have mattered though... First sammich to walk by and I would have broken down and killed it.

That buck in Keith's pic would have been easy to kill, the fugger is half blinded bay rack. Image

Smith, that was the toughest part to get used to hunting in that area. I have passed on 125 inch deer there on a regular basis. Every season I see at least two world class bucks. I have already seen two this year that go 170 ish. Some that you see after dark driving out of there will make you piss your pants.

Counts: I was really wanting a 140" deer this year. I have only killed 3 of them in my life and one of those was with a gun so it doens't count. They aren't easy to come by around here. I guess I should be happy with the sammich 9 pointer, but putting a bad hit on him the first time left a bad taste in my mouth for sure. Then, doing it again really sucked donkey. At least that time I had an excuse for hitting him in the guts. The first time was an all out miss. I have not sat a great deal of time in a tree this fall due to a newborn, sick wife, job, you fornicating name it. Hopefully I can get in a tree in the next couple of weeks. I would like to see a 125" deer from a stand. I have only seen two this year that I am aware of while having a bow in hand. I did see a couple dandies with a gun in my hand, however. One of those deer could be dead, however.

Did somebody else shoot it, or did you not find it after a shot?

I shot it, couldn't find it, then shot it again 13 days later and killed it.

David....do you see many good bucks late season in your suburban spot?

I usually see the biggest deer in my season late in the year. I hope that I have a similar experience this year. Usually in the first two weeks of Dec. Last year I had one giant deer following a doe that would not come in to my stand area for anything. He felt more safe out in a field. That was one time I wished I had a buck decoy, but who knows. The doe did however come right past. I kinda blew it because I grunted to get him closer as he seemed like he would pass out of range. When he didn't get a visual after coming in about 20 yards to 40 yrds from my stand, he knew something wasn't legit.

After last years experience, I very seldom grunt or bleat at a mature buck anymore.
