Dave, I agree... That's two nights of cutting and wrapping.

MOCraig probably takes his to the meat locker. I will do that for hamburger and summer sausage, but for steaks, I am pretty picky and do my own processing.

You got me there MoCraig. BTW, you should invest in a grinder. On second thought, don't. I would rather pay to have that done for sure. I have ground it up myself twice and it isn't worth the hassle.

You can get a pretty good one with a sausage stuffer attachment at BPS. If you grind your own you can contol the grind size and any additions like pork fat, etc. One of the things we have done is grind it, season it, stuff it and smoke it before it is ever frozen. Main problem with that is that most of it gets eaten before it hits the freezer.

Craig: I had the same "bright idea". After doing a couple of deer for jerky, I decided no way is it worth it. I'll just cut steaks into strips and do my jerky that way from now on.

Hey, I've got a novel idea!!! Why don't you take it to a processor and pay them to do it?!?! Idiots.

It's not worth it Snow, that's why.

It's been years since I've taken any meat to a processor, and that was for summer sausage.

Before that I used to take deboned meat to a place in Clinton that would grind meat for 10 cents a pound.

I like to grind one out every morning before work.

Meat locker...right.

No way, can have it done in half the time it would take to drive to the meat locker and I know it's mine. I just cut all of it into steaks, roasts and stew meat, no burger.

Same here Shawn. But, if I want some burger for chili, I will send it to the locker for certain. That grinding is a hassle even with an electric grinder.

I would probably do the same, too many things to kill to spend time grinding burger, I just don't use any burger.

Steaks, a few roasts and burger for me. It doesn't take long at all. We've cut up 9 deer in my garage this year alone, plus one elk. I've got a little #10 grinder and that thing whips through it in no time at all. I only grind it once at that.
