MOC- You can never really know what is roaming the hills of south MO. People denied that there are mt lions in MO too, but some folks swear they are around.

Infact, I heard mt lions have an affinity for hog snout, but that just may be a rumor. Image

Ihaven't lived here long enough to know about all parts of Missouri...maybe it's like Louisiana, which is really three separate states. South of I-10 is true Cajun country, and I'm not sure they are even part of the United States. The part of the state between I-10 and I-20 is a blend of all sorts of folks. North of I-20 up to the Arkansas line is the Louisiana bible belt, with good fishing, good hunting, and lots of cross burning for Saturday night entertainment.
Is Missouri chopped up the same way??? If so, then those rooted up pastures down near Cape Fair on Table Rock Lake might be from those non-existent hogs that aren't here in Missouri. Same thing with the torn up MDC crop plantings up on Truman Lake, and around Stockton. And the hog chasers down in SW Missouri aren't bringing in Russian boar cross breeds either. Since none of that stuff is actually happening, it must be some kind of propaganda trick that MDC is using to get more funds to use for deer and turkey projects.................... Image

I lived in KC for a short while many years ago. My father in law bought a beautiful home out on the south end of Wornell Rd. A block away was a pair of really nice homes occupied by the reputed boss of the KC Mafioso. They kept the grass mowed and did whatever they did somewhere else, so I guess they were good neighbors. Rumor had it that the two adjacent homes were connected by an underground tunnel.
It's interesting that two of the three counties in the state where issuance of a concealed handgun permit is optional with the sheriff are Jackson County and St. Louis County. As I recall, the third place is whatever county Cape Girardeau is in. When there was a statewide vote on Prop 2 a few years back, those areas overwhelmingly voted against concealed carry. It's also interesting that a convicted felon could not be issued such a permit in any event, so I guess those areas are populated with an overwhelming number of convicted felons who could not get a permit to begin with. Out here in the sticks, the vote was 85% for, with the local police chief, two lawyers, and twenty or thirty pacifist preachers and school teachers campaigning against the proposal. They lost, the law has been in effect for almost a year, and the predicted carnage has not started yet. Duh!

I've hunted hogs several times with my Sharps in cal. 45-90. It's a single shot and I never had the first problem. I've also taken one with my cal. 54, Leman flintlock, again obviously a single shot, with no concern or problem. In addition, in my experience, wild boar ribs are much better suited for dog food than table fare. Just my .02...

A .45-70 bullet makes for some wicked hog medicine. I no longer have my #1 carbine, but I still have a lot of loaded ammo in boxes in the basement...mostly 350 grain cast bullet loads, but a couple hundred rounds of 300 grain hollow point bullets....nasty stuff.

Actually CW the story of the houses being connected was true, but it wasn't South, it was North. They migrated there from the Northeast. For many decades the Northeast was pure white, I'll leave it to your imagination why.

Hey CW...I shot a 45-70 for a number of years and it's one whale of a great cartridge. One day it occurred to me that "more is better" so I ordered the Shiloh 45-90. My load is 80. grs. of GOEX Ctg. under a 480 gr. NEI bullet that looks a lot like an elongated Keith type SWC. That particular rifle has been my main big game hunting rifle for almost 10 years. Anything hit well does not travel far, most don't get up.

HB...my wife's grandmother and her "lifelong batchelor" son lived over in the Northeast section. I understand completely where you're coming from.

Haven't seen or heard anything about hogs since Saturday. Seems like in the last couple months there have been upwards of 200 hogs killed down around Wappapello.

I bought a hog a month ago.
