Make sure that you tell us the "day" you're going to do this killing, so we can have the ambulance and Life Flight on standby.

I know you have been fortunate enough to kill some deers...but my statement still stands - I bet you kill more deer this way. Not meaning deers just to be killin them, but respectable deer. If you concentrate on the things like 1.rut 2. wind 3. barometric and moon and the such versus just runnin around tryin to wack deer you will be more successful in the long run.....for respectable deer.

But, there is much truth in what Triton speaks too. I don't near as much as I did 12 or 15 years ago....because of family. With four kids and scouts, football, baseball, after school clubs, dance and half dozen other things - the outdoors has taken a back seat. I am fortunate enough my wife doesn't care that I go now that the kids are old enough to be somewhat independent, but I find myself wanting to take them with me most of the time. The time when this "pain" of all the activities is a small window in the scheme of life and I want to be able to do the best job I can so my kids don't grow up with a lifestyle I wouldn't be proud of. The outdoors aint gonna die off in the next 15 to 18 years....it can wait.

heck, I only hunted 43 days last fall between deer and duck...I am gonna have to work on that.

You know, there seems to be a lack of common sense in society anymore. How's the saying go, common sense ain't as common as it used to be. But I tell you what, it's good to see that it's alive and well in the hunting/fishing/outdoors community. It seems that the ones that love the outdoors the most are the ones that will give it up in a minute for family and to raise their kids right. Y'alls some darn fine people...yeah, even you Rafe. I might conjure up me an excuse to get out of here early. Taking a nephew hunting tomorrow, have that whole gun selection and what to hunt dilemma to ponder through.

This year is the first year that my oldest is really fire-up about hunting, and I've got a 4 day hunting weekend planned in November for us. I don't remember the last time I was this pumped up for a hunt. I think I can say without reservation that I'll enjoy his first deer, more than my own. The best part is I've got three more coming behind him.
McLintock, great party, but no whiskey. We go home.
