It's too bad we can't do a poll among back country guides and hunters to see what they carry. It seems like they must carry folding knives, or carry them in a pack, because you hardly ever see them with a sheath knife on their belt.

There's no doubt most of us spend too much on bows, arrows, and broadheads, when what we currently have is already probably too good. I don't give a goat-fornicate what kind of knife you carry, I just don't see the point in spending a lot for a knife. I haven't ever had a knife "failure", and if I did, I can walk to the truck and get another.

Again, if you're heading in the backcountry, I can see the value.

Amen! Can I get a witness from the congregation? Preach it, Brother Craig.

Bows, arrows, clothes, and gimmick stuff I can agree with, but guns are another story.

Here's the knife I use...

Image

The one without the gut hook... gut hooks are pointless IMO.

Besides the fact that it is a sweet knife, one of the deciding factors for me was the sheath...

My old knife had a plain leather sheath that got a little flimsy and light with wear. I sat down in my treestand one day with it on my belt. It poked thru the sheath and stuck me in the donkey.

I tell ya what, ya stick yourself in the donkey with your own knife... you'll be lookin for a hard sheath too!

I don't even carry a darn knife into the woods. I leave it at the truck along with all of my other stuff. If I kill something, I go back to the truck. I'll carry my pocket knife during turkey season though. I've needed it on more than one occasion to kill rattlesnakes.

Alright, Ifin' I could figure out the digital camera at home I'd try to post a pic. I would have to agree with TTTN. Can't be a quality hand made knife. Mine is a Ray Johnson. Hand hammered, hard steel. It holds an edge good enough to shave with, but tough enough to cut on anything you might want to through at it, and still hold it's edge. The sheath is handmade as well, with good quality leather. I haven't poked my donkey yet. I've had lesser knives. I don't have them anymore. Why drive a Yugo when you've got a Lexus?

Hobie... nothing wrong with a Cold Steel master hunter, as long as it's one of the older Carbon V steels.
