I here ya. In fact this bike I will be buying is kind of a stepping stone till I can afford something more along the lines of what I really want. Unfortunately that will require about 27k. Don't want a hog, will do a chopped and raked custom with a ss 117. I have owned a few crotch rockets but do not intend on pushing it as I had in my youth. They have some really nice curvy stretches along the smokey mountains. This BMW will make for a nice ride in these areas. I like the naked look too.

2B, I'm a little concerned that you might not be able to reach the handle bars, or the pegs for that matter. Unless the picture you posted is the actual size of the bike, then you shouldn't have any problem.

SF..... I hear ya. Its only 31inches seat height. I owned a GSX750 for many a year. It was actually taller. Tippy toe or flat on one side, and the other on the peg. It works out fine.

Those beemer bikes are sweet for sure. But I was "gawking" over some of those Buells not too long ago....I got kicked out of the shop for excessive drooling.

I have looked at the buells. In fact that was my original intent. Then I went down and test drove a buell, ducati, and then this one. BMW hands down. It is very smooth and took bike of the year last two years. Excellent reviews.

Just be careful man. I have heard of a great amount of motorcycle accidents in the past couple months and none of the results have been good.

2B - I've never had the chance to ride one of those BMW's...but I've heard they are sweet riding machines. A buddy of mine just bought an old BMW (not sure of the year) and his winter project is to restore it to original condition.

Co-worker here has a bumper sticker that says "Bikers are dying for you to see them". That chit is the truth...if you ain't watching the other drivers FIRST, your time riding/living is limited. A dude's wife just died this week because some 87 year old man pulled out in front of them outside of Eldon on Highway 54. The bike slammed into the driver's side door of the truck. The driver of the bike is a professer at Westminster and he's still in critical condition. How the heck you pull out in front of a bike at 10:00 at night and claim you don't see it is beyond me.
I can't count the # of times I have avoided a wreck because I saw that some dumbass wasn't paying attention.

I have heard all the stories. Been riding for years, just not in the last 7. Avoided many a accidents. Winding, hilly, country roads are the worst. Got to go slow on those and be prepared to come to a complete stop at a moments notice. Most of those street riding years were in Fla. Lots of old folks to contend with. Got to be smart and on your toes at all times. I have no plans in eating pavement but will take that risk. Appreciate the feedback and concern. Now on a highway or those with minimal sideroads like the natchez trail. You can turn it loose a bit. First and foremost expect everyone to pull out and not see you.

A guy from work, left his job at 3:00pm last Monday, got on his bike, and made it 1/4 mile, to the first intersection, where a 16 year-old pulled out in front of him. The collision killed my co-worker instantly. The kid had gotten his driver`s license one week before. My uncle, who rides a Harley, says there are two types of riders. Those who have crashed, and those that are going to someday.

On a lighter note...2B isn`t it a biitch having police officers pull you over all the time thinking some 12 year-old kid is taking a bike for a joy ride?

A friend of mine, (asst. principal at my school) just lost her ex-husband who she was still very close to the last week of school. Motorcycle accident. They share two sons who are beside themselves as they were very close with their father. It all kinda put a damper on the last week of school for everyone.

H170 - You're uncle ain't wrong. If a rider's #1 rule isn't "watch out for the other guy", it's only a matter of time. When someone comes to an intersection and they aren't looking your way, paying attention, talking on a cell phone, fixing the radio, etc., you can bet your azz that I'm slowing down and moving over because chances are good they're coming into the intersection.

Laying a bike down is something you have to be prepared to do without hesitation. I'll take a messed up ride and road rash over eating sheet metal any day.

Ive got a BIL who is lying in the hospital as we speak and the prognosis is that he will be in a wheelchair and crutches for approximately 8 more months....Kind of like an earlier story, he was going out a road and a young driver tried to make a turn in front of him and he hit it....At least he had a helmet on...Worst thing for a cyclist, anyone making a left turn...
