Rainbow - How we vote in '08 isn't going to change the stem cell issue.

Did anyone see Bush's press conference yesterday? It made me sick, he pretty much said that he'll give the democrats anything they want!!!

Snowy, obviously it doesn't change the stem cell issue but if you want to see further erosion in that area keep the dems in power. You really should care who has the majority, especially for moral and religion issues and don't forget how much they like hunting and guns.

I'm so sick of the Republicans right now, I could puke. I guess I need to get in the woods this weekend, and forget about this crap for a while.

This is what I understand about Stem Cells Research:
A stem cell is a primitive type of cell that can be used into development of the 220 types of cells found in the human body (e.g. blood cells, heart cells, brain cells, etc) and are regarded by some as offering the greatest potential for the alleviation of human suffering since antibiotics. Diseases that kill millions of people may eventually be cured through stem cell research. These include heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. These cells are typically taken from surplus frozen embryos left over from in-vitro fertilization procedures at fertility clinics, where more often than not the cells will be discarded anyway. So instead of these cells going to waste they are used to try to save lives. Is that about it?
Snowflake as far as my morals are concerned maybe you should take a good look at yourself before you start throwing stones. The use of human cells for studies has been happening for centuries and if not for the research many of the medicines you take for granted would not exist.

Snowflake how many children have to die of disease that could be cured before you think it is ok for stem cell research?

What if one of yours was critically ill and they had a chance with this research would you feel different then?

Have you ever held on to a child, born with a defective heart and watched helplessly as he died?

BJ, you don't seem to get it... this vote was not as to wether or not stem cell research could be done. It was about whether or not embryos could be grown (cloned) for the express purpose of harvesting those stem cells. Do you see the difference?

BJ - You need to do a little more research. The breakthroughs on stem cells have been on adult stem cells, not embryonic stem cells. There's a big difference.

As far as my child possibly receiving a cure due to the use of embryonic stem cells, I would be against it. Is it worth taking a life (embryos) to save a life (my child's)? No it's not.

Snowflake you have my pity.

It was about a bio-tech company in KC getting public funds. Unfortunatly the money trail was well covered and this didn't come to light till the night before the election.

GH first this is a DANGEROUS PLACE, Second I am not nor have I ever been a DEMOCRAT.

SF if this is about people getting money for something they are not entitled to then, THAT part I would disagree with. There is no difference in my opinion between transplanting a dead persons organs to save lives and cultivating cells for the same purpose.

Snowflake no one is taking a life, these cells could not exist on their own, there are no organs to sustain life therefore it is not taking a life.

Well, like I have previously stated.... this issue is about defining when life begins. BJ has just expressed his opinion that life does not begin until there are "organs to sustain life." So basically, when my daughter was only a zygote then an embryo before implanting... she wasn't yet alive. Even though babies come from two living cells joining? Huh... Nope, sorry BJ. That doesn't jive.
Anything you can do, I can do better.
