Early Summer Mushrooms

Post by micus » July 9th, 2004, 5:39 pm

So far it's been a great beginning to summer with plentiful mushrooms--especially Chanterelles, I already have a year's supply. Found a tree covered with Oysters from base to crown. Found a Giant Polypore just budding so was able to harvest at optimum time (they get about 3' across). Picked a number of batches of Ash Boletes plus a sprinkling of other Boletes.

Anybody else out there looking? Image

7/24/04 Chanterelles still going strong, many have "flowered". Ringless Honeys have come up. Still some Boletes around.

I haven't photographed any mushrooms this year. Here is a photo from last year. They look the same this year. Image
Was down cleaning up camp this week, had a few oysters and cinnabar-red chanterelles with the long-ears I fried up. Almost made all the machete swinging worth while.
I am hoping this rain will bring some new shrooms up. Image

Micus, you still finding stuff ? I have been pretty strapped for time lately and have not made it out at all.

Hey Micus-

Thanks for the pic. That helps me with the color ID.

The recent rains have assured continued new fruitings of summer mushrooms. I have found new oysters, ash boletes, 3 types of chanterelles, gem studded puffballs and misc. others. This is a good year to identify new species as I'm seeing things that I haven't seen in years. I expect this to continue into the fall.
