Yep. $10 a bird. It's the same as paying some outfitter to set you up on other types of game.

The question is best answered after the hunt, was it worth it to ya ?

I would pay to hunt them if they were wild birds and it was an EXCEPTIONALLY good area. My genera`l policy is not to pay-I can usually find them on my own but Missouri is a tough state to get into them good in the wild.

I have never paid in the past to hunt any animal, but this fall I will pay a little to go with some friends pheasant hunting near Miller SD. The guy that runs the place is a neighbor of one of my best friends and he said he had a blast last year Image. Besides, since we are all friends he is not really charging us full price Image.

According to one of the guys that went last year, there were tons of birds, with 90% being hens. Apparently, this spring's hatch was exceptional, so there should be lots and lots of birds Image.

I don't even have to hardly get out of my truck to limit out in SD. Just shoot the birds in the road ditches and be done by 2 pm (season starts at noon). Image

I might need to start a new club to challenge the WAS and CCGC Image.

Anybody want to join the Roasting Road Roosters Rocks Club? Image

RRRRC is five letters; CCGC is four and WAS is three. Does that mean your new club is superior to the others? Image

I don't mind paying to hunt under the right circumstances. I have taken my oldest son to a preserve so that he could experience a lot of bird shooting and continued action. I will probably take my other kids at some point as well.

I refer to preserves as "shooting birds" not hunting birds. However, it all depends on the preserve's cover and bird placement. Sometimes the owners can make it more a challenge if necessary. BUT if you are paying for birds, you also want to have a good chance to shoot them as well.

As far as going out of state to hunt, hunt providers should be paid for their access to areas and knowledge. However, some areas seem a little on the high side for my budget.

I have heard of others that "road" hunt in SD. Perfectly legal and quite a few birds are taken.

It takes more time and you will spend some money researching an area if you do a self hunt. You might have to make several trips before you get to have as productive of a hunt as you would with an experienced person involved.

Now...if you can get the experienced person for free, and you have access to good areas, then what is the point to pay a bunch of money to hunt?

Just depends on the situation....

I did what is called a continel (spelling) type pheasant shoot. They let the birds go from the center of the circle and if they fly over you bust them up. If you miss then the dogs are sent to that area and you try to hunt them.

Saw a cock try to dodge my truck and boat today. All I can say is them suckers are fast runners! Image

I would not pay to hunt them.

I believe to 'hunt' is to go out and 'search' for your prey. Hunting is rewarding to me and I see it as a challenge. One of the most important things(personally) about hunting is the stories I am able to tell my kids, my mom and my friends. I get so excited on opening day...getting dressed, drinking coffee, heading out into the woods or a field, reminiscing about 'the big one that got away'.... Image

Would you find it as exciting or rewarding to go a Ranch or on land that was enclosed with gates/fences? One that was stocked with thousands of deer? If so, then"MO power to yah', especially if you find it rewarding".

huntingal - I agree with your statements. Image

If a person was unable for whatever reason to get out and scout and all the other necessary things that are needed for 'said' game hunt, then yeah I would and have paid for a SHOOT. Now mind you there is a HUGE difference between just shooting and hunting as you pointed out huntingal.

My point is (drum roll please) only if the situation warrant. The whole getting up crap and sipping coffee thang to me is just that wasting time. Get out of the house and load your truck, car, suv or whatever and just enjoy the outdoors by killing all matter of life. Image
