Poacher Story

I was just thinking back to last year and I remember one early morning during late rifle season. I was still practicing with my bow and had a 3-D deer target set up on the front lawn(before I knew any better).About 5am an old Cowboy cady pulls up and shines the 3-d deer,8 pt

on it, and a rifle comes out and POW. Well I turned the outside light on and stood on the deck with my gun and they took off. Called the GW and he didn,t seem too upset. My question is, how many would be in favor of the GW using the remote-controlled deer for catching poachers??

I think if it helps to catch freaking poachers then I'm all for it, but if it doesn't really work then they do'nt need to use it..

I used to be all gung ho about havin them poachers nailed. After years of seeing them get off with only a hand slap, it just don't get me worked up as much. Now if they would deal out REAL fines and jail time, now then I could get back to caring again.

You are correct kutter, it would hardly be worth the effort since the fines are so low. But if you can instill the fear of prosecution with a heavy fine people will take notice.

Maybe what they would haveta do is get the courts to levy an equip charge like they does with dwi's. The sate patrol gets $75 dollars fer given ya the darn breath test. So maybe the coservation folks should get $75 fer lettin ya shoot their electric deer.

Seems to me the dude's violations would be shooting from a vehicle and roadway. You'd be hard pressed to get him for shooting at a deer after dark and/or out of season, because he was shooting at a chunk of plastic...
It would be nice to see clowns like this guy nailed to the wall with stiff fines and the suspension of hunting rights. The suspensions would be useless however. Folks that are willing to poach aren't really too concerned with the suspension of their hunting license. They're goin' out either way...
The best approach would have been to simply open fire on his truck. That would have sent a crystal clear message. Should the law have become involved, you simply take the position that you were under fire...

If that's the case, then how does MDC get away with charging people for this when shooting a remote controlled deer?
I'm all for MDC operating robo-deer!! We used to have some property outside Mack's Creek (Oneshot's neck of the woods). One year we went into town to check deer over lunch of opening day. Stopped at the cafe for lunch and the locals kept riding this dude. He was a city dude that owned land down there and came down once a year to shoot deer. Always pretty rude to locals. Seems as though he was on his way to his land opening morning, when he spotted a nice buck standing out in a field. So he did what any self-respecting city slicker

would do....he stopped the truck and whacked it. Unfortunately, "it" was a robo deer. Before opening of the season, this dude lost his gun and had a big ole ticket. He was not happy...and the locals were just rubbin' salt.
Why in the hell MDC didn't take his truck is beyond me!!

the world is plagued with idiots... Hell, you could put the death penalty on poaching and there will still be idiots that will try it. I would like to rant off they deserve to be jailed for a year(s) and fined out the

(and they do)- but in the end, the tax payer is paying for the prosecution, proly the public defender and for their stay at the county/state bed and breakfast.
Put up the decoy, change the rules that if two or more GW see ya shooting it, then through administrative process the state keeps your car/truck and gun that was used in the incident. The poacher could of course petition for a judicial review if he wants (and at his own expense), but I don?t think that would happen to often knowing that at least 2 GW seen him/her.

Yeah but that means you gotta have at least two GW's watching every remote controlled deer...they may already do that, but if not thats a lot of man hours dedicated to something that may or may not pay off

Gutpile - The instances I know of have had at least 2 agents, sometimes 3. One operator and at least one "spotter".
"May or may not pay off"????

I'll bet the percentage that pays off is WAY up there. They normally set up the deer in areas where there's been a lot of complaints or known instances of roadshooting. I'd be interested in knowing what the actual percentage is of robo-deer setup resulting in tickets.

Fool - First, they get permission from the landowner and make sure they will cooperate with prosecution before setting up anywhere. Then they bust them for shooting from the vehicle, from a roadway, after dark and if they are lucky, tresspassing. There is no game violation for shooting at a chunk of plastic or a stuffed deer...
Think man think!! I can't do that for you...
