Bad and good weekend

Post by DH_72 » November 19th, 2004, 12:12 am

The weekend started off pretty good for me. I shot a doe Saturday morning while still-hunting through the woods. Dad comes over and helps me find/gut it. I go back to the truck to get the 4-wheeler to haul her out and a game warden stops by. He asks if I got anything and I told him I got a doe. He asked to see my tags so I gave them to him. He gets all pissy b/c I hadn't put my transportation tag on her yet. So I had to go back get the doe and show it to him. He gives me a $125 fine b/c I hadn't put the transportation tag on her yet. Total Bullchit!! I'd love to meet that guy in a bar somewhere.

Sunday I'm in my stand at another farm. About 9:15 a doe shows up. I was gonna fill my other bonus on her, but as I'm Imageg my gun, I hear a grunt. Look behind her and there is a 120inch 8pt. buck behind her. Shot him and he ran about 10 yards and fell. He's a pretty nice buck. Except for the darn game warden it was a pretty good weekend.

Congratulations on your success Image, but you really need to read the rules about the transportation tag Image.

I don't think you can fault the game warden for giving you a ticket, unless you can find a definition of "IMMEDIATELY" that says "I can take my time walking out of the woods, go get the four wheeler, drive back up to the animal, load it up and then transport it back to your vehicle."

You are lucky he didn't confiscate your deer. Many years ago a friend of mine shot 2 does and placed the entire tag under each hind quarter. He walked back to camp to get some help and the truck and lo and behold the game warden was there. My friend excitedly tells him how he just shot 2 does and warden says great, lets go look at them and I'll check them in for you. He drives right up to the downed does, lifts up the hind legs and pulls out the complete tags. The warden gave a rather lengthy lecture about how you are supposed to separarte the tarnsportation tag IMMEDIATELY after the harvest. My friend got 2 tickets, his rifle and both deer where confiscated.

N2 - I'm not disagreeing with you...the rules are the rules. But I also think writing a ticket in this situation is stupid. Why do they call it a "transportation" tag, if it has to be attached immediately. Shouldn't it be called an "immediate tag"? Image I guess I might be guilty of not "immediately" attaching the transportation tag, because I usually don't do it until after field dressing. Should a ticket be issued in that situation as well?

Also, with telecheck...I can shoot a deer on my property, take it back to the house, call it in without ever placing a "tag" on this deer. Am I illegal? You betcha.
