The Fletcher Mo. Monster

I went to my Father in Laws house this morning at around 11:30 a.m. to have a holiday dinner. My B.I.L. was out with his Model 70 stainless Rem. chambered in 300 Winchester Short Mag. Topped with a 3-10 50mm. Leupold scope. He came in at about noon. I was itching to get out with the pistolo to try to tag a doe. (Already took a Smith sized 8 pt. on opening day) As I was standing there thinking about taking a walk, I noticed that George had already changed into his shorts and sandals. I decided not to ask him to go with me to cover the long shots. As I stood next to my truck I heard some serious crashing down in the thick woods. I assumed it was a coyote, as deer, until recently, have not been common. I grabbed my Ruger Redhawk and started down the trail that leads to the Big River (What I like to call Gobblerville) As I scanned the brush for a critter to kill, I about dropped a deuce when my Serbian mother in law startled me out of a severe critter scanning mode. She asked me if I saw something. I just said, "I heard something." As I moved down the trail I hit the first 5 ft. of leaves and a skyscraper buck comes running up the trail and stares at me for 10 seconds before it turnes and exits the trail into a cedar thicket. I yelled to Momma O to tell George to get his gun, and get down there. I hoped the deer bedded in the thick stuff and I could push it to him. By the time he got dressed, made it to me, and did a block on a push the deer was long gone. Poor George. It is always a hard luck story for him. This was the biggest deer I have seen down there in 12 years of hunting this property. I hope it is a taste of the future for this area.
