Thanks 2B for helping me out posting the picture.
Story. This buck is an IL shotgun kill. Killed it at 10:00AM, fourth deer I had seen on opening morning. I caught a glimpse of him slipping through the woods and could not get a shot at about 100yards. He made his way up to a 5 acre grass field and headed right out across it. The other side of the field is a cut corn field of the neighbors and lots of hunters. I desperately pounded on my grunt call trying to get his attention. He finally heard me about 1/2 way across the field 120-150 yards away. I was about to put the grunt call up and grab my rattling horns to try and get his attention. He looked twice my direction then turned and started trotting directly at me. He entered the woods at about 80 yards away and stopped. I hit my grunt call once and he started trotting again right at me. I took the safety off and braced myself for the shot. At 30-35 yards I took a clear shot right inside the front shoulder and the base of the neck as he was coming almost directly at me. He ran directly at me and darn near ran into the base of my tree. I aimed down as he was running under me, but I saw his front legs buckle and he started going down. He crashed 7-8 steps past my tree and gave it up. Leaves were all caught up in his rack and I couldn't tell exactly how good he was. I radioed the landowner and he said he was bored and would head my way. I just waited in the stand, soaking it all in until he showed up on a 4 wheeler about 20 minutes later. I let him touch it first as he was pretty excited too. I've killed some pretty good bucks over my 24 years of hunting, but this is the second best one I have ever taken. It was sweet, but, I had bow hunted for 8 days prior to this and passed on a lot of little bucks waiting on a mature one. The only regret I have is that this didn't happen a day earlier with my bow in my hand, cause he was coming right at me, and I'm sure I would have gotten a good shot at him. But, It was good nonetheless. I killed a 15 pointer 19 years ago when I was a senior in HS, that grossed 159" and this is the second biggest I've ever taken. It gross scores 144". Thats It. Carry a grunt call!!!!!!! Image Image
How would you like a round house kick to the face while I'm wearing these bad boys?

Great story. I have worked them grunt calls pretty good. Sometimes they have the opposite effect. I have seen nice bucks tuck their tails and run off like a beaten dog. Then others they turn and come right in. I use em as a last resort to try and turn a deer if he is definately go away from me. This time it sure worked out well for you. Congrats.

Thanks for sharing. Image

First of all, 2B you are surely a really well seasoned hunter. Your observations are spot on. I have a spring Turkey hunt for U if you are interested. PM me.

Blood trail- that was a cool story. Congrats.

It has less to do with his comment, and more to do with keeping a promise I made at the Ho-Down. I will say this. The Turkey hunting at my Father in laws place, is premium. The last person I took there commented that you would have to rent a turkey video to see anything like this set up. And I am sure you saw x-bows bird from last year. Proof is in the puddin'.

Whatever I did or promises were made I'm in. Thank you Counts. As long as your not getting sweet on me I think we have good lasting kinship going here. I am sure this seasoned hunter could learn alot from you. Two up. Image Image Image
