This weekend, a muzzleloader hunter was killed at Shawnee Trail CA in Barton County. He was a Webb City guy. Early 30's, with one kid and a pregnant wife.
Joplin Globe Story.

I was good friends with his wife in High School. I knew him, but not real well. They are/were good people. It's really a shame.
This guy was a good and experienced hunter. It just goes to show, it can happen to anyone.

Fellows, I had this very same thing happen to me this weekend but the gun did not discharge. I have never dropped my gun, bow, anything. The gun was on my treeseat leaning against the tree. It fell 17 feet to the ground. My life flashed in front of my eyes. I shoot an Encore, so I think it would have been difficult for a discharge to happen. I don't know. I broke the buttstock on the gun. Just ordered a new one. This is terrible what has happened to this young fellow.

MoCraig: That is exactly what I plan to do. On top of all of this, yesterday morning I had a massive crap coming on. I couldn't hold it, so just as soon as I got to my stand, I had to unload. First time I have done that in years as well. I'm not hunting until Saturday morning. All hell has come down upon me. PoisonSnake

I don't need your darn sympathy Counts. Give me your muzzle-loader.

No David, I made 3 or 4 foolish mistakes on that big buck last week. The first one was unloading my rifle. It went downhill from there. After that deer took off, I became one of the many thousands of idiot rifle hunters that take to the woods each year in MO.

My Knight Stainless Mag. Disc is rented out for next weekend. My neighbor is going to Silex with his son for the weekend. He takes me to Arnold Rifle and Pistol club throughout the year, so I felt like I had too. This particular gun is 4/4 on deer with 4 different hunters. I hope he isn't the first miss.
smith- are you shooting the 150 charge in that thing?

Yeah, that is what I am shooting. But, I don't think I am getting a complete burn on the pyrodex pellets. I will say this. It was dead on at 200 yards, which surprised me a bit.

That is what you get for cutting the barrel down to 10 inches.
Have you considered resighting with that new triple seven? I haven't used it, but have heard good things.

I have thought about it, but I am one for simplicity. Let me give you a prime example. If by chance I shot one and decided not to reload my gun. Then, by chance the deer got up to take off running... Upon pulling my head from my donkey, I would be better served with the pellets than regular powder ifn' I needed to do a quick reload.

They are making a pellet in the triple seven now.

I see. Now that might be something to think about.
