Gonna be 60 degrees tomorrow. We're takin' the boats out on the water.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I know what cabin fever is like, and I don't miss it one bit. Won't be long, we'll see y'all down here!!

HAY NOW I'm up in Des Moines Ia. and spent most of the day on open water. Image Just got a new boat and had to get out and see how it is going to preform. This was a new record for me in this area. On the water in Feb.4th with the sun to my back and crusing up the river with good a friend and the sun ,worm weather and Miller lite. Image What more could you ask for besides the fish to bite. What a beautiful day. Boat ran out just fine . Man that 90 suzuki 4-stroke is so quite you could only hear the pee stream when idealing. Man I'm impressed with it. Hope to be out there again soon only this time I think I will consentrate on fishing instead of the boating. ImageJim

Don't feel bad Mike...there's nothing wrong in enjoying the fact that warm weather is on it's way. I can't wait! I don't ice fish, so I've got cabin fever really really bad (as you can tell by my attitude in my previous post...lol).

Bull Shoals is our first stop this year, and my first chance to get back on the water, so I am really looking forward to getting down there...counting the days in fact. We'll be there in 42 days! Image

PD might be tempting Mother Nature too much....although it should be exceptionally nice weather around the time of the FLW, Mom Nature has been known to bring in snow as late as May. Ozark early spring weather can be described much like Texas weather....if ya don't like it, hang around a few hours. It will change. And don't those walleyes just love unstable weather........

Hey Juls, I asked for it. Believe me, every time I can get the boat out in the wintertime is a blessing for this old Wisconsin boy. One thing to consider: payback can be brutal (summer).

Do you remember that Mother's Day thundersnow/windstorm in SE Wisconsin, back in the late 80s? All those trees broken down...looked like a Missouri twister had blown through. But CW's right, this area is the battle line between north and south (just like it was 140 years ago), and as a result some terrible weather can occur. Most folks won't take ANY chances with storms around here. Nasty stuff can form right overhead.

Thanks for the warning about the storms down there. I am one of those people that don't take any chances with them, if they look threatening. A lot of the guys will just keep on fishing, but there's not enough money in the world worth my life or my co anglers life...I'm outta there! Image

And, yes, I do remember that storm. I used to live in SE Wisco when that one hit. You're right, that one did make a very big mess of things. Good ol' Mother Nature was having a VERY bad day, that day. Image

Well it's back to the barn here. Image It was nice to get out even if only for one day. We got hit with three inches of snow last nite so looks like winter is here again. All we got was just a taste of good weather. Hope to be down in your neck of the woods later this month or early March. Image

Juls....you probably already have the channels programmed into your boat radios, but it's a real good idea around here to have access to NOAA radio. Severe storms, especially in the spring, can pop up right over your head.
Sometimes you see the black line forming in the sky and have plenty of time to move to a safe cove or marina, but those Ozark severe storms USUALLY come in from the southwest and can get behind you before you realize what is happening....about the 2nd clap of thunder is a real good time to fire up the big engine and "git went" as my Cajun friends down in Louisiana would put it. That NOAA weather channel can give you quite a bit of advanced warning about where the storms are forming and where they are most likely headed. The good thing is that they don't usually last very long....fifteen minutes of terror, then the sun comes out again.

Yep, NOAA is programmed into our radios. I turn it on every now and then when I know in advace something is expected to happen during the day, just to keep up with where the weather is in relation to where I am. Thanks for the heads-up...I'll be more aware down there.

The same sort of thing happens out in the Dokotas on their resevoirs. As soon as a front hits the rivers and lakes, it explodes. We were fishing Lake Sharpe a couple years ago, and Rick was down around the bend from me. I got hit with hail, lighting/thunder, and a downpour where I was, while he watched a tornado about a 1/4 mile away from him touch ground and go back up. 20 minutes later the sun came out. That was kinda freaky.
