2Bills launched out of Ruark Bluff about 2:00pm for an afternoon assault on whatever would bite. Fishemen were pulling out their boats and told us nothing was biting. We made a run down into the timber in the back of Greaser Creek to try for bass on plastic worms. The bite was extremely slow....we picked up three or four in deeper water on the way out. Finally, about 4:30 I caught a nice keeper size walleye, then BB nailed a big white bass. After that things picked up considerably. We got into several pods of whites, all big to very big...14" minimum up to 17inches or so for the biggest sows. I lost count of how many we caught, but BB estimated close to a double limit each...all were released. We started catching them in 12 to 20 foot water, but as the sun dropped, the fish moved in much closer to the bank. Total for the day was 3 walleyes (one keeper each, plus a short for BB), numerous largemouths (all short), one drum, and somewhere between 40 and 60 large whites.Almost all were caught on plain lead jig heads with a small smoke swimming minnow fished very slowly. I had several pickups with the jig lying on the bottom and just dragging along with the boat. It was a very good day.
