Probe Sought in Terri Schiavo 911 Call

Jun 17, 10:52 AM (ET)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Gov. Jeb Bush asked a prosecutor Friday to investigate why Terri Schiavo collapsed 15 years ago, calling into question how long it took her husband to call 911 after he found her.

In a letter faxed to Pinellas-Pasco County State Attorney Bernie McCabe, Bush said Michael Schiavo testified in a 1992 medical malpractice trial that he found his wife collapsed at 5 a.m., and he said in a 2003 television interview that he found her about 4:30 a.m. He called 911 at 5:40 a.m.

"Between 40 and 70 minutes elapsed before the call was made, and I am aware of no explanation for the delay," Bush wrote. "In light of this new information, I urge you to take a fresh look at this case without any preconceptions as to the outcome."

Michael Schiavo's attorney, George Felos, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment Friday from The Associated Press. In comments in The Miami Herald, he said Terri Schiavo would not have survived if her husband had not immediately called 911.

"It's absolutely preposterous," Felos said. "If he had waited 70 minutes she would have been dead."

Terri Schiavo died March 31 from dehydration after her feeding tube was disconnected at her husband's request, despite unsuccessful efforts by her parents, Bush and others to keep her alive.

An autopsy released Wednesday concluded that she had been in a persistent vegetative state and revealed no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused before she collapsed.

It left unanswered the question of why Terri Schiavo's heart stopped, cutting oxygen off from her brain. The autopsy showed she suffered irreversible brain damage and her brain had shrunk to half the normal size for her age.

When in the heck is this thing going to end? There was an extensive autopsy completed showing that she was in a persistent vegetative state. Her parents are still denying that. The autopsy concluded there were no signs of abuse. Now dumbass Bush wants to stick his nose into this case, again. Remember the law Florida tried to pass for the benefit of one, and only one person?? What could another investigation possibly accomplish...the autopsy has already concluded there was no abuse and they couldn't determine why she collapsed. Jeb is an idiot! It's time to move on.... Not only is Jeb looking like an idiot that been beat and is holding a grudge, but it's a waste of tax payers money to conitnue with this when the medical records are known, and show no legal wrong doing on the husbands part.

I hear ya dave! I don't necessarily agree with the husband's actions. If he didn't want to take care of her and such, then why not just divorce her and sign over care to her blood relatives. Was there insurance $$ at stake or was it purely based on philosophical beliefs as to what the husband thought his wife wanted? But regardless, there's been medical malpractices trial(s) and an extensive autopsy, if there was any wrong doing it would have been shown by now. An investigation after the autopsy concluded no foul play could be shown is just plain stupid!

The real question is: who is putting Jeb up to this?

I heard Mark Thurman on Court TV the other day, and he has been doing an independent investigation. He says they botched the investigation from the start, because, as policy, the husband is first suspect when a woman is killed in the home (of course he forgets that she wasn't dead yet). Also that the husband made up the story about her having an eating disorder. It had never been diagnosed until after she was in the hospital, and then he reported that she had a problem.

First he lets the woman stabbing movie star/ football player get off easy, and now he is stirring the pot on the other gay coast Image Could he have a bit of a guilty conscience? Image
