Back to Stockton

Well, since no one's had anything good to say about upper Bull Shoals lately, I guess my daughter and I will head up to Stockton in the morning. Where we fished on day two--that area has consistently produced good fish over the years. But recently someone added a few small brushpiles in one small spot, and there were some big fish on the feedbag last Sunday. Catfish and walleyes both. I lost something absolutely huge that day--couldn't turn it. So I'm hoping this will be a day my daughter will remember for awhile... Image

PD....that was probably one of those Volkswagen size catfish that usually hang out at the base of the dam, but migrated south for a visit to some of their smaller cousins. Make sure you always use line of 14# or less....otherwise one of those monsters could pull you boat all the way under. It happens all the time out in Texas.

We had a fine day! Caught 5 legal walleyes, including my daughter's 21 incher and my 25, 2 big crappies, a bunch of cats up to 10 lbs., a bass, a carp, a white bass and a number of short walleyes. All on leeches, 17-22 feet. Young lady wouldn't touch 'em, but I did get her into a stringer shot with the walleyes (yeah, we kept 'em--she was one fish shy of a limit). Will post it up this week. We had fun!

Jolly good show, old chap! I should have trailered the Express over yesterday and tagged along behind you, but it was considerably hotter over here than at Stockton, and the new coyote rifle was begging for some fresh air, so I sat out in a field for several hours listening to a CD of a screaming rabbit....which did not impress the coyotes even a little bit. What a waste of a fine fishing day!

Perhaps a CD of screaming leeches would be a better approach. Seems to work for certain other wildlife... Image

I can't help but think of all those coyotes sitting in the shade laughing their a$$es off at the idiot sitting in the sun listening to the screaming rabbit. You need to invest in some night vision goggles and do it right.

I know that dock! Been there once or twice...nice walleyes.
CW and the local high school shop teacher will be putting in at that same dock later this afternoon to try for some heat of the day fish, and maybe some shoreline bite when the sun goes down. Somewhere in that mass of hooks, bags, lures, line, etc. there has to be a stick bait or two.
Walleyesrus....I would gladly get a telescopic sight with infared night vision built in, but the local gun toting representatives of the MDC do not look kindly on that sort of thing. The rule book on use of night vision WHILE HUNTING ON YOUR OWN LAND is much like the "how many rods can a fisherman have out"....one section says that landowners hunting coyotes on their own land are not subject to the lighting restrictions, while another section specifically prohibits night vision and use of electronic calls at night. It's not hard to figure out which section the game warden will rely on as he/she writes up the ticket and confiscates all your gear. Since a new rifle, scope, player, amplifier, and speaker runs about the same in total as a sonar/GPS combo for the boat, I will just have to sit out in the heat and hope that it is hotter in the den than it is outside. CW has patience....sooner or later the coyotes and I will do some business.
