Gonna take the Express over to Stockton early tomorrow morning and try for a little "short white walleye" action on top. If that does not materialize, the unthinkable could happen and we'll go looking for b...bb...bbbbbaaass......
This is a walleye forum, but they are not the only fish in the lakes. If, from time to time some other worthy game fish is mentioned, the forum won't come to a grinding halt.
The primary focus will always be on walleye, but if somebody has a good day with whites, crappies, bass, etc. feel free to post it up here. Most of us are multi-species fishermen anyway, and I for one would welcome any info that might put a bend in a rod. If time and temperature permit tomorrow, we may head down south of the power line and look around for some of those mysterious deep holes that yielded the winning baskets at the July tournament.

I'm sure you could make amends for even mentioning fishing for the "Greenus Carpus Maximus" by buying a round of refreshments for everyone Thursday evening.

Yeah it won't hurt to mention, I guess to mention that other game fish that is so popular, I guess. I am gona fish a tournament tonight for em.

Hey now....gimme a break here. Before I saw the light, I used to fish for those b.b.bbbb..well, you know. Given the way I fish for walleyes, those years of chunking a plastic worm have sure paid dividends. No money...well, there was the ENTIRE POT of the five get togethers this past spring, but that was probably luck of the draw. Anyway, I'm thinking that the mere mention of some of those other fish won't bring down scorn and abuse. If somebody from this forum were to go up to Triton's hangout and mention that a stupid 12 pound b.bbb..bbbb (you know what kind) had been caught and released while walleye fishing, you can bet that more than a few inquiries would follow....except for a tournament where money is on the line every cast, I enjoy the fight with whatever is on the other end of the line. Even the lowly rubber lip fish will give you a fight if you manage to hook one. So...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. For those of you who tournament fish for other species, good luck....report back here on how things went.

Triton...you gotta get out more often. You never saw my posts concerning the use of Gulp worms? The diehard live bait guys on here were accusing me of being on the Berkley payroll. The river environment where I like to fish them sure makes me believe that their advertising claims are very, very close to the truth. The jury is still out on putting them on spinner rigs, but a good ol' tried and true Texas rig is extremely effective.

I wish someboby would start putting together weekly walleye tournaments so I could fish those instead. But I like the competition of local tournaments. I am going to start fishing the ones on table and bull . I am bored of sitting home all week and nothing on the tube..

We walleye types should have us a little bass tourney sometime. Maybe then we'll catch a couple walleyes...

I realize there is no accounting for taste and if cw wants to waste his time pursueing junk fish I guess thats his perogative, Ive learned to be tolerant of those with alternative lifestyles. Something like the don't ask don't tell policy of the military, just don't expect me to change sexes, I mean species. oops.

My but we are testy today! I am a bit concerned that maybe some of you "hair challenged" individuals have been spending way too much time in those big Skeeter boats without a big ol' hat to protect all that exposed scalp skin. Most stores that sell western clothes have late summer specials on Charlie Daniels type straw cowboy hats.......keeps the sun out of your eyes and off your noggin...What a deal!

Meatman...you arrived here just a bit late to get in on the cold weather get togethers, but it won't be too long before somebody mentions the magic words....and the best part is that you probably won't have too much of a drive to join in. The winter/spring get togethers are on Bull Shoals, and we normally launch out of River Run or Beaver Creek. It's not a weekly thing, but we usually had at least one every three or four weeks. They are not "tournaments" in the usual sense....we spent a lot of time in the Wagon Wheel instead of actually fishing, but there was a voluntary five buck big fish pot. It took five fishing days before somebody won the money...a whole hundred bucks. So plan on joining in next time around,but don't quit your day job.
One more thing: the planning for one of these events is quite extensive. Quite extensive indeed.

I was going to handicap myself tomorrow by fishing with a piece of sewing thread and a safety pin, but I found something even better....I found a Diawa Mini-Cast reel on a matching two piece U/L rod at a garage sale this spring. The reel was pretty "iffy", but yesterday at BPS I found a practically unused newer version MiniCast reel in the rebuilt shelves for ten bucks. It's loaded with four pound test, so I put it on the rod and will be using that instead of the usual high tech stuff.....so there! Pffffffft!BTW, this is a serious question: does anybody know where (other than EBay) that I can get replacement parts such as bearings and bushings, etc. for the old original Mitchell 308/408 series ultralight spinning reels? I need the bushing that the spool rotates around...parts for those French made reels are getting harder to find.

Yes CW, you are into " alternative fish lifestyles " if you are fishing for those Green Carp. They are a decent fight, I'll give them that. But that's all. They taste like carp (reverse the r & a in the previous word)and have so much pressure on them from fisherman its pitiful. That is why you DON'T see 10 lb. Bass(except rarley) anymore. But that's OK. Maybe MeatMan and you can go " Green Carping " together. I can't wait until I get my NO Green Carp bumper stickers made up so that I can put them on my vehicle's bumper and my H8-BASS personalized license plate. Yes, I may tick off some of the Green carpers out there if I do, but they think they own the water and that their fish is GOD. Ho Hum. I also despise the fact that Green Carp are given all kinds of special priviledges in tournaments(they can be culled and we can't AND they are OFF limits in Arkansas to spearfisherman and walleye are not). They remind me of the Special Education student in Education. These Spec. Ed. kids' parents want them mainstreamed into the classroom just like the other kids, but when they do something bad, they are given special priviledges that other kids don't get. Anyway CW, we will have to annoint yu with some Hooters wings grease Thursday Night to ward off the dreaded Green Carp Syndrome that you will get if you fish for them too often.

El Prez, you need to tone it down a bit if you expect to win any converts. Really! Bass are #1 around here, and walleye is probably #5 behind crappies, catfish and white bass.

I don't fish for bass myself (anymore), but the bass guys catch enough walleyes that they're worth listening to every once in awhile. And vice versa, I'm sure...
