I had a couple stands I had to get up prior to the 15th thats just around the corner btw. I got up there around midnite and parked my truck on top of a ridge that gives me a good view and took a snooze waiting for the sun to come up. I woke up around 07:00am rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, and looked across to the opposing ridge. Much to my delight was 5 deer, and couple of em look like they might be good bucks. So I quickly grabbed my bino's and steadied up on them. I be danged, they were all bucks. Three of which were good shooters, and I mean the smaller of the three being approx low 140's, and the biggest being a giant, approximately high 150 low 160's. Wide and Tall. There was two smallish bucks with them as well. They were not much more than 75 yard from where I was planning on hanging a stand. I have high hopes for this season. That's the stuff that keeps me going.

Good grief. This place is 3 hours away from where I live. September 15th is right around the corner. Did I not use proper english, gramma errors, etc ?

Thanks passthru, glad to see you posting. A guy tries to make a serious post and share his happiness in the discovery of what could be a promising season and he gets chit on. Never ceases to amaze me.

Im thinking that 5 bucks, three of them possibly being in the 140" or better range would be enough to get anyone excited, It sounds like a good area you have!!

This will be my second year hunting it. Place is near new boston in linn co. Passed on many bucks last year, some smallish, a couple in the low 130's would be my guess. I had been seeing one really nice in that I was holding out for. This is also a county that was using the 3 point on one side rule. Maybe it's starting to pay off already. In any event, I am dang excited about the upcoming season.

I have never in my life seen a buck that has had his velvet shed in early August. I guess it could be the drought, but I have never seen it ever. Interesting.

I saw a small one the other day with his velvet off already.

If SF had an ounce of wit in his veins, he could counter that with a fairly decent comeback. By that, I mean a SF comeback.

Where does it say they were no longer in velvet? I can't find it.
