1 out of 4 at 30 yards. The ratio gets to about 3 out of 4 at 20 yards... But at 10, I don't miss Image much. Image

I was shooting like crap last night.

I do much better when I don't think about form. When I concentrate on form, I shoot differently than normal, and so I concentrate harder, and shoot like more crap. I do much better when I draw back, aim and release as soon as the pin is on target. Thinking about my bow arm and consistant grip etc etc ruins it for me.

Dave- I have noticed the same thing. Early in the summer, I shoot about 15 arrows without considering form. And then begin to think about my bow hand, trigger punch, etc. If you have been shooting for a while, I would let your natural form override all. Being comfortable and familiar is as important as form anyway.

I feel that way about shoot'n anything...........whether its shooting a bow, rifle, shotgun, pistol, or sling shot.

Natural and Instinctive feelings when hunting and shooting usually works the best.

It's that whole elevated excitement thing I have problems with. 'Had that problem for as long as I can remember. Practice never helped much.

The longer I hold the string back, the more bowling words I tend to use. I think I have like a 3-5 second window I try to get everything lined up, that works pretty well for me.

Bowhunter, sorry to hear you're out on a limb. Sorry for that one, had to.

Dave: If you remember the funk I mentioned a few weeks back, this is exactly what I was doing. First, the bristles on my rest had worn so I was out of tune. I would see erratic arrow flight and I was convinced it was my grip or my bowarm. I would shoot myself into a frenzy. To the point that I was actually developing bad habits. Retuned the bow and now everything is fine and I am back into my groove. I generally go through the worrying about form thing for about a month each summer. I start off drilling holes, then I go into a funk, then I come back with a bang. Hopefully, things will hold out ifn' the 160 walks by. PS

It had been a week since I had shot at all. I was shooting surprisingly good groups out to 50yds and thought I was set. Then Mon. evening at 35yds and 50yds I was all over the place. I didn't shoot last night, but will again tonight.

When I draw and shoot immediately I'm death on wheels, when I take my time and think the shot through, I'm not so great.

I tend to shoot fast when on stand, so I'm just going to practice that way. I am thinking about taking the quiver off the bow though, the ballance would be much better.

On a side note, the 8pt that has been comming to the yard every night brought a couple friends last night. A 10pt and another 8pt, but these may only be 2.5yr old bucks. Not real wide or tall. I got some video of them and I'll study it more some other time. There are 2 confirmed biggens' out there though (10pt and 8pt)not in this bachelor group.

Well, I was on target then that stupid fornicating rubber strap thingy that holds the peep in draw snapped me in the face last night. I forgot what deal the strap was fixed to so I took that entire peep set off and replaced it with the other bow's circle strapless peep. Had to do some readjusting with the pin, but I am back on target.

I had that happen at an inopportune time this summer. The only good thing is that the witness to the incident didn't point and laugh as much as he could have.

That is why I don't shoot a peep with a noodle. I don't want that to happen at an inopportune time. I'll pay the extra $ for a good prestrecthed string, split it in half, and insert the peep. The peep will not rotate out of your line of sight if it is a good prestretched string such as Winner's Choice. I shot a Muzzy string last year with no problems as well. However, that string went to heck in a handbasket for me this spring. I think there must have been some weakness int he string underneath the serving. I think I just got a lemon. Otherwise, I think the Muzzy string would be just as good for half the $.

The smaller 8pt I saw last night was out of velvet, the other two still in, but the 10pt has some foliage tangled in his rack. He won't have it for much longer.

I don't know why I put this here. Image
