Just 8+ weeks to go before your next chance.
Congrats, but it's the situation you're in now that has kept me out of the stands I have up. Heat and bugs is one thing, no buck tag is a totally different deal.
Unless he scores over P&Y, then I can't blame ya one bit.

Thanks Dave-T,
I did what I said I wouldn't just so I could get a razzing of chit from you boys. He is a 130 class deer, 19 1/2 inside spread, 12 inch G2's, 10 inch G3's. Stickers like mad. Really nice looking rack but smaller that the 140 I set for myself last year. I am pretty bummed about being without a buck tag till rifle opener.

That is a great deer 2B, but why would you shoot a 130 class animal when you already have one?

Is he just an 8 pointer? If so, that is a dandy regardless.
BTW, I saw a 130-140 at a distance of 75 yards and if he had followed the other 4, his donkey would have been toast.

But I wouldn't tell anyone to pass on a buck like that either. That's the type of deer we are all after. Good job.
I haven't even hunted yet. There are 3 bucks 8-10 pts in my area that are under 125", and I'm afraid being within 20yds of them would be too much to bear, unless it was pre-rut/rut because so many bucks are moving at that time. I think my chances for seeing better deer go up then, and passing marginal deer wouldn't be so bad, knowing that a bigger deer could be heading my way at any time.
I wouldn't have passed on a buck with those measurements, great deer.
Get a pic up btw.

Way to go. I filled my buck tag at the end of Sept last year, and was bumbed about not having one till after rifle season. Turns out I did not see anything better anyway, so it worked out for the best. I continued hunting - just with my camera, which ain't a bad way to go. Kept the bow there for does and turkeys.
Let's see some picts!

PS,

Couldn't help myself. He was standing right where I imagined he would. Everything played out perfect. Knew where he was bedded, knew where he was headed. Got into my stand that was between the two and he showed up as planned. Quartering away double lung and took out the top half of his heart. 50 yard recovery. Pictures will get posted soon. I was happy as could be with the whole deal. What really got me is all the stickers. PS, he is dang close to my other 8 point but the rack is different in shape and a bit heavier.

I gotta tell ya - I just don't understand the mindset of those of you that put off hunting till closer to the rut. Set your standards - whatever they are - and get out there an hunt. Just seems to me that the more time you spend in the woods, the greater your opportunity. I could see it if you only had a limited number of days to hunt in the season, then I would reserve those days for the rut. But other than that - more time in the woods = more chances of getting a shot off on a nice buck. Who knows - maybe something that far exceeds your personal standards is walking under one of your stands as I type this...

The deal is I hunt a fairly small property. Tipping the deer off that I'm in the area or any hunting pressure changes their patterns, and that doesn't help my chances imo.
I've been hunting this place for 5yrs (this is my 6th season here) and the hunting is definitly better if I don't pressure it before pre-rut imo.
The odd thing is that traditionaly the late season hunting is much better than the early season.

On a disposable camera that I will need to get developed. Will try and get around to it in the next couple days. I was by myself so the pics are of where he crashed landed and a few that I took moving him around to get a better pic of his rack.
