This is the Gerber Gator. It is the knife I use. You need to have one, too. Do what I do and you'll be just fine because I'm real smart.

POS! I got Gerber at home that is supposed to be a step above that one and it's a POS! It's at home and it stays at home. Getcha a handmade Crosswhite from the dude in Springfield. Crosswhite goes everywhere and I carry a Buck for backup in case the Crosswhite gets a little dull cutting through the pelvic bone.

Guthooks are for puzzies that can't figure out how to skin a deer without cutting themselves! Image

I like that style of knife for skinning and some butchering work, but it's to wide through the blade for a general hunting knife imo.

Nice try MoCraig, but that picture tells a different story. If you were some sort of manical dude slicing heads off the picture wouldn't have the knives all laid out, pretty like, on a bonjour beige/brown cloth. The care you show to your knives is telltale of a sword swallower, plain and simple!

Bucks, gerber, brownings, schrade, case, and the rest of those knives can lick my beanbag. I will tell you right now that if you have never owned a custom grade knife you don't know anybetter, but those over the counter crap knives are not worth 2 dollars. Thier steel is cheap, thier gimmicks are worthless and they would let you down if the going ever got real tough and you were forced to use that knife as a survival tool.

A good knife has many properties that those knives never will. A custom heat treat that allows the blades impact resistance and lateral strenght. Some of that translates into durability and edge retention. None of you would think about taking one of those knives laying it on a hone and getting it shaving sharp, then chopping the neck off an elk using a rock against then spine and beating it thru it's pelvic bone and then splitting the chest and still having it nearly sharp enough to shave.

Craig, what you need is a Hattori Hanzo sword.
