Lightning Striking Twice???

Well, as you boys remember from last year, I shot a large deer the last night of rifle season only to lose him because of a torrential rain/snowstorm. That, and being an idiot of course. But, I did find him about 1.5 weeks later 100 yards from where I last saw him.
2 weeks ago, I shot a nice 9 pointer and for the life of me didn't know where I had had hit him. Nice tall rack, guestimated in the 120s gross. Not terribly wide. Could not find that deer either. Took a lot of grief for it.
Friday morning at 8:40am, I had a nice tall racked deer sneak in behind me. I didn't even hesitate on the shot although I was caught with my pants down. The deer realized something wasn't right for sure. I drew, shot, hit a limb, and hit the deer back and into the guts. Deer went 80 yards and laid down. In fact, he stopped about 40 yards from my tree and I got a good look at his rack then. 9 points (5 on the right mainbeam), very tall, nearly as wide as his ears.
I knew the deer was in pretty bad shape but I also knew I had made a poor hit on him. So, I backed out, and waited 6 hours to track him. Finally caught up with him around 4:30pm and finished him off with my knife. Nice 9 pointer. Shot once in the guts and once high in the ribs but back. Upon necropsy, the buck was hit below the spine but external to the diaphragm. Possibly high liver hit. I didn't check that out as I was trying to clear the body cavity of guts ASAP.
You guessed it boys, same deer as 2 weeks ago. However, I really looked over the deer when he laid down and I was guessing 130s on Friday. Even when my brother and I got up on him and he was still alive at 20 yards we were like, "He is a dandy".
He lacks mass and brow tines but otherwise has a very nice rack. I didn't age him, but I guessed 2.5 years old unfortunately. My buddy that works for the MDC said 3.5. Who knows?
Truth be known; another Sammich. 120s gross.
