Well, I'm sure you all were biting your nails and praying daily for our safe return from the Griswold family vacation mountain edition. We had a great time! Rainbows were spawning and we did pretty well. Also... saw every critter Wyoming has to offer except a wolf. Maybe some pics will follow.

This has been the only trip I've taken in my life, where I've gotten back home, and thought MO looked like azs. If they had crappie and flathead, Wyoming would be the perfect location.
As it is, WY is a sportsman's paradise. We caught plenty of trout, Rainbow and Cutthroat 15-18+" that were eager to bite. My nephew even caught a 9" Brookie. LA brought in a few whitefish as well.
On one gravel bar we fished, I saw tracks from: deer, moose, elk, coyote, and grizzly bear.
We have around 900 pics. After I sort them I will post some pics later this week.
The Tetons and Jackson Hole are awesome, btw.

It's a lot worse if you live out West for a while. I lived in Montana during the construction season between 2002 and 2004. I gave serious thought to not moving back to MO. The looong winters were the only real downside.

We talked to a waitress in Gillete that was from FL. She said the cold was the only downside.
It was snowing in the mountians on Wednesday the 14th. It was around 45 degrees at river level a little after noon. It was about 70 a little before noon.

Trip was great! The 1100 miles home in 16 hours wasn't the coolest ever, and driving across Nebraska sucks donkey.
The woman in Gillete said she hated WY, dear. She said she hated the cold.
Oh... we did see the worst rodeo wranglers in the world.... the cowboy got drug around by a bronc half the circle of the ring. Getting stomped and dislocating his shoulder along the way. Chit, I like to think I coulda roped better than those focks. It was pretty pathetic!!!!

I forgot about that. It was more like he got draged 2/3 of the ring, and got stomped solidly 5-7 times. Glad the kids got to see that. I think they worried more about the calves getting roped though.

I usually take the SD route across- it's not much more exciting but at least you can stop at the MO River near Chamberlain and do some fishing.
I don't think you could pay me enoguh to live in Gillette during the winter- it is a lot more exposed to wind and drifting snow than the rain shadow area of the mountains. Gillette was my "halfway" stopping point on my 19 hour trips to central Montana.

We were doing no stopping for anything on our way home... not even fishing. It was an ironman kinda deal. From snowcaps to home sweet home in a day.

What is in Gillette to were you cant find a motel room. I'm going out to Washington in a few weeks and that was going to be one of my stops but couldnt find a room so I'm staying in Buffalo. Plus the room rates are about $50 more than anywere around there.

I wonder if it is a commom stop for people in transit. As far as I could tell, there wasn't much there, but it is a larger town. They have some fast food joints and a few motels. It's a friggin' metropolis for out there. I didn't see any real attractions though. If I recall... there were TONS of antelope on the outskirts of town.

Antelope hunting around Gillette is phenomenal.
