My dad and I are fishing in a tournament at Truman next weekend. It is just a fundraiser for the Knights of Columbus so it's not a big deal. We've never been to Truman so any help is appreciated. Can any of you give me any tips on good places to go or anything to watch out for their. I am planning on looking at some topo maps this week to figure some things out, but if you have any tips they would be greatly appreciated.

Im fishing a tournament this weekend. Topo maps are good, but let me list the things you may want to watch out for:
1. trees
2. trees
3. trees
4. stumps
5. more trees
6. occasionally low water
Make sure you stay in the channels.
It isnt quite as bad around the dam area.

BB, it can be dangerous when you get up the grand or tebo or osage or pomme arms. Make sure you keep in the river channels or take another lower unit with you or maybe a prop....I have fished up there for the past 4 years and I still am not real comfortable. I at least now have a GPS that helps.

Where are you guys taking out of?

There is an underwater ridge that extends from the O 3 point into the lake on the left side as you head to the mile long bridge....watch out for it because most of the time you can't see it. Most all of the bluff banks have deep water but Truman does have its shallow spots in areas that you may think are deep. I would fish up in Big Tebo this weekend. It will probably be warmer water. Plenty of structure to fish in there.

I had a friend tell me, "steer toward the bluff and away from the trees". It is pretty good info.

Triton, is there an echo in here? I would try to find 55 or warmer water with some stain which is easy to do in Truman in the shallower cove mouths. The fish are staging at the Rock so Truman is probably a couple weeks behind.

I'm not sure exactly where we are taking out of. I am trying to figure that out right now. I don't know much about the trip yet. My dad knows a lot more than me.

My answer on where to go would depend greatly on which marina you are taking off from. Tebo Arm is a pretty long run if you are going out of Bucksaw! Image

BTW, the entire lake is going to have stained water after all this rain with maybe the exception of the Pomme arm, maybe.

BB there arent very many marinas up there and even less boat docks.
RB, not if you have a Triton boat. Image Image Image

Triton Triton Triton, you failed to mention slow retrieve in that cold water. I agree on your baits and the order of use though. You can never underestimate the success of a jig.

BB, depending on where you are coming from would determine where you put in. We almost always fish the State Park end of the lake and like their ramp and marina. From there, in Triton's Triton, you can cover a lot of good water on all the major arms of the lake.

Is Truman not very deep or are there just a lot of standing timber in it? Can you safely run up and down it if you use a gps and stick to the channel?
I hope it's not like Wapapello where you can be running in 20 feet of water in the channel out in the middle of the lake and move over a couple feet and be in 3-4 feet of water. That lake is a pain to run even though they have the channel marked with buoys.

I grew up on Truman. What exactly do you wanna know?

FYI: Triton and Rainbow... you old boys might try to live a little... there is no fun in fishing the dang channel.

Truman used to be a river. It was damned up in the 60's and became a lake. In the channels it is plenty deep, but in some area... like old road or railroad beds... it is not. Lots of old timber. The best fishing areas depend on the season. I'd fish cove mouthes right now, but I'm a crappie person. Bass fishing makes me yawn.
