Morel

Post by LadyAngler » April 19th, 2007, 1:19 am

In all of today's exciting posts I failed to mention I found two morels yesterday right by the mailbox.

Question LA how do you know that is a good mushroom or one that will kill you? I have not tried to pick any because I don't know the difference.

BJ - Morels are morels...only morels look like morels and there are no poisonous look alikes.

The red "morel" is listed as toxic, but I have eaten them and known people that have eaten them all their lives with no ill effects. Some folks can't tolerate them...I just don't like them.

Found 2 reds (those went to the babysitter because she loves 'em) and about 6 whites last night. They are just starting in our area. What I really want to find is some of those really fun ones that grow in manure!

Trial and error is the best way, BJ.
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

Morels have a distinct appearance. No one would mistaken a morel for anything else.

LA - Why are you pissed? That is not a picture I took of a found mushroom. That came off a morel site. All of the morels we found last night were just starting to come up. Most hadn't even straightened up yet. This weekend should be prime in most of my hunting spots. Image

I meant the picture I posted. It was an awesome hillbilly chick outside a chitty trailer with a missing tooth and proud grin holding a giant morel. My whole joke was foiled. The website it was on crashed. I guess it couldn't handle my traffic.

I see the pic...but looks to me like you/she has all her teeth. Image

We find ones like that at a friend's from near Trenton, but I can't remember seeing anything like that in Central MO. Image

She isn't missing a tooth? I thought she was on the left there. Regardless, it's a great pic for me, that is. Image
