I have a brand new TC Pro Hunter that I haven't fired yet. I am going to give some rifle hunting a go this year. I would like everyones input on what types for bullet I should buy. I have .270 cal. and will be hunting in places that more than likey will not allow more than a 200 yd. shot. Please advise.

I've always had good success with Remington Core-Lokt 150gr.

Keith, if you are going to use box ammo and not reload, Try hornady custom stuff. They have loads for both 130 grain interbond and sst.
Otherwise try and find a factory load with the new nosler accubond.
That TC should have a 28 inch barrel if it's the pro hunter. For all your whitetail hunting I'd stick with 130 grain pills... if you are going for something out west like big muley, elk or black bear... bump it up to 150 grain bullets.

Can you explain what these two things are?
Thanks

They are bullets. The interbond and SST are hornady brand ballistic (plastic) tip bullets. The SST is comparable to a Nosler BT and the interbond is a more well constructed bullet.

I have had great luck with the plain Hornady interlock, in the Hornady custom line. I use them in a 300win mag and a 257 Roberts. Excellent bullet, and the loads are very accurate in both rifles.
Keith, the deal is you can't hardly find a bad bullet these days, imo. Buy a couple boxes of different stuff, shoot a few groups, and go back and buy 3-4+ boxes of what is the most accurate. You'll be set for a while. 130, 140, or 150 grn will be just fine as long as you don't get too hard of a bullet, as in the 150grn premiums, they are just not needed, and you will have better results on deer with a softer bullet that expands more. No need for the 150 Trophy bonded, XP-3, partitions, etc. Plain jane cup and core bullets have wacked the chit out of deer for a long time so don't worry about the heavy premiums.

Grab the khaki box with black sides and red letters with .270 on the end. Don't shoot your eye out.

Thanks to all. Who ever said you can't get sound advice on OM.

I would suggest trying out several different brands to find out what works best in your firearm. I prefer Remington Core-Lokts for my centerfire deer rifle (.30-06) but Winchester .22 cartridges and shotgun shells. Your gun will tell you what it likes.

I hear you Tigerhaze, but one thing I do not have time for is a great deal of time at the range doing experimenting. If I can find two days to do some shooting between now and fall it will be a miracle. I have been trying for two weeks to find time to try and get my bow tuned and it just never seems to come available.

Keith, if that is really your situation, and you won't be shooting over 200yds, just commit to a bullet/load you want, and sight in for it. Unless you are unlucky, or your gun is either in a bad way, or really dislikes the shells you bought, you should still be able to hit 6-7" at 200yds with what I would call horrible groups at 100yds (3-4"). Buy 2 boxes, just in case. Sight in 1-1.5" high at 100yds, and you're done. Should take 4-8 shots, and you can be done in well under an hour. Maybe as little as 15 minutes.
That is a piss poor practice/preperation regimen that you are trying to get away with, just so you know.

I shot Federal Premium ballistic tips and found out real quick that I didn't care much for them when I shot a small doe and the bullet exited the same side that it entered. Now, I shoot what I consider the next worse thing in the nosler partitions. But, I very seldom shoot at anything in brush. Heck, I very seldom shoot at deer with a gun anyway. But, I think I would recommend the core-lokts as has been previously mentioned. They will hold up a lot better on a shot where there is unforeseen brush.
My biggest problem isn't with the bullets, however. It is generally with being a dumbass and unloading my gun on a deer that isn't completely expired.
Oh, let me add that the BT and NPs are deadly donkey accurate and flat shooting. Since I gunhunt very little, I'll stick with the NPs.

Core-Lokt's have always worked well for me in .280. It's not exactly a premium bullet, but for whitetails it works, and in my gun is accurate.
Hate to say it, but I do agree with MoSpeed...and I am just as accurate..
