Talk about the lowest of the lows. I had my chance this morning on a solid 8-pointer that I believe will net around 140". Anyway, I hit him in the shoulder and got about a broadhead's length of penetration. Ferrule was bent. Blades were bent.

Bad thing is that I was as cool as a cat on the shot. Talked my way all the way through the entire episode. Shot felt great. Deer was walking and I believe I released when his shoulder was back instead of extended. Shot looked perfect. Just missed by an inch. Deer like that do not come around very often.

I did the same thing about 10 years ago on a 6 month old fawn. At that time I was shooting 74 pounds and fixed bladed Tri-loc 125s. Same type of penetration.

Oh, and as of this morning, I have seen 27 different bucks from a stand. Only 7 or 8 of those have been 1.5 year olds. But, Only 5 of those have been 3.5 years of age or older.

Damn deer didn't know what hit him. Never knew I was in the same county. I was taking off at noon today and then working all day tomorrow as well. Then, back at it.

I've had 3 mature deer within 20 yards. Once it was too dark. Then, this guy this morning. Then, a good 10 pointer about 10 minutes after this fellow walked off. Rest have all been sammiches.

Are they chasing, or just cruising?

Personally...I've had the same thing happen to me many years ago...though it was on the biggest mac daddy, freak nasty, of a fork horn you've ever laid your eyes on...I was devastated. What I learned…never shoot shitty ass Muzzy broadheads again…amongst a few other things.

My advice…get your ass back in the stand because you’ll likely have a 160 class 10pt walk by within the first 15minutes.

Tritoon, that PS is hell on snakes bellies.....just ask him.

Toby: I did the same thing on a 6 month old doe faw about 10 years ago. I was shooting Tri-loc 125s and 74 pounds with aluminum arrows. There is one spot on the shoulder that can not be penetrated. I have found it twice.

A miss is a miss is a miss. You can bet your fukking assess I'll be out there again Friday morning. I've got 8 more days the way I see it. I hate the warm weather and the moon, but if you are in the right spot, anything can happen and quickly. I just wish I had sealed the deal this morning on that big dude.

BTW, they are cruising and chasing for whoever asked.

Oh, and Toby, I keep asking myself why I didn't stop that big sum bitch. It would have been over that quickly I think.

H085…in hind sight, the “amongst other things” part of my comment would better detail the lessons learned on that day. Regarding the Muzzy’s, I surely can’t blame them. I don’t shoot them any longer because they flat out suck. I just threw that comment in there…maybe for similar reasons you claim to have killed a “cull” buck. Unlike some others can “read between the lines”. Loser.
